Dantley scored 17 of his game- high total in the fourth quarter, in cluding eight of Utah’s final 12 points. And Griffith added 12 in the final period as Utah outscored San Antonio 42-22 in the last 12 minutes. Griffith also limited George Ger- vin — the NBA’s scoring leader for the past three seasons — to just two points in the first half and 10 in the game. Utah blew a 30-16 lead late in the first quarter as the Spurs tightened up their defense to pull ahead 54-47 at halftime. San Antonio was still ahead 74-67 after three periods, but the Jazz outscored the Spurs 25-9 early in the fourth quarter to grab the win. Mark Olberding led San Antonio with 16 points, while George John son had 15. Utah is now 5-5 on the season. San Antonio drops to 9-2, but the Spurs still maintain a SVa-game lead over second-place Utah in the NBA Midwest. They will be after us.” He said the team has had a little rest and with some hard practice will be ready to play Friday. Joelson had tough matches all through the tournament last week, Kent said. He overcame a lot to win the title. “Max King had his best win ever by beating John Benson, the number one seed for Trinity,” he said. Ben son has played some professional singles matches and is considered the top doubles player in the nation. The doubles play was the strong point of the San Antonio matches, Kent said. Ron Kowal and Tom Jud- son beat Guillermo Stevens and Paul Crozier, the number one doubles team of Texas to reach the finals. Kowal-Judson were defeated by Trinity’s top doubles team.
