The Battalion B U.S.S.R. reacts to worker unrest United Press International MOSCOW — The Soviet Union, in its strongest reaction so far to the worker unrest in Poland, warned to day against giving in to calls for poli tical change in its neighboring ally. The Kremlin said anti-socialist elements were behind the political demands, “which are far from the economic and social interests of the working class of Poland.” The statement came in a Pravda article signed by “Alexei Petrov,” the authoritative pseudonym that re flects thinking of the politburo of the Soviet Communist Party. Quoting approvingly from Tribu na Ludu, Warsaw’s official daily, Pravda said the newspaper was right to stress “the boundary between just demands and demands which threaten the interests of the state. ” The article also reminded readers of Poland’s importance in the Krem lin’s strategic thinking, saying it “plays an essential role in the center of Europe as an element of peace and stability in the European continent. ” It did not mention the agreement reached in Warsaw Sunday, be tween the leaders of some 350,000 striking workers and the Polish com munist government, for a 21-point charter including free unions, wage hikes, and other social reformers. However, Western observers said that may have been because the announcement came after the arti cle was written. Last week, the Soviets were ac cused of jamming Russian language news broadcasts on Western radio stations about the Polish strike wave, in an apparent effort to prevent Soviet workers from taking similar action. The only reference to progress in the negotiations in the Pravda article was this statement: “The gov ernmental commissions have prac tically accepted for consideration the demands which were advanced by representatives of the workers. ” Quoting again from “Tribuna Ludu,” Pravda said “anti-socialist elements seek to continue the strikes, advancing ever new de mands, including political ones.” JjL. -4j’£cC(.WV£c\J^. 4th AIVWIVEUSAUY SAEE Free carnation with *5 00 purchase! Jim Massey’s 121-page play, titled ‘Getting Even,” almost point by ipoint describes the extortion rattempt that ended with an explosion of a highly complex bomb Wednes day at Harvey’s. Massey, who works for his father’s ;lectronics firm, said Saturday he ivrote the play after spending a vaca tion in Las Vegas in early 1979. “That’s where I came up with the Idea,”said Massey, 25. “I said, ‘Hey, if you wanted to rip oif a casino, this would be the way to do it.’ “When I first read it (news reports of the actual plot), it was kind of an eerie feeling. Then I got kind of nervous — wow, something I came up with somebody actually used. “Not to say they read the play — but something I dreamed in my head someone actually did.” Massey said he called the Dallas office of the FBI with the information about his play but was told to call the Reno, Nev., office collect. “They finally took my call,” said Massey. “They said they’d tell the Dallas (FBI) office and two agents would probably come out to talk to me Monday.” In Dallas, Jim Abbott, special- agent-in charge, said the FBI had no plans to investigate the matter. “You’re making something out of nothing,” said Abbott. “We are not investigating it and I have no com ment to make about it. ” However, another agent told the Longview News-Journal the agency was interested in talking to anyone who had read the play prior to last Wednesday. Massey said he would give the FBI names of people who had read his unpublished play or that he had talked with about the plot. “I know one guy who’s probably crazy enough to do something like this,” Massey said, adding that the person he had in mind had read the play.
