Anderson Monday announced the appointment of a nationwide fund raising committee and met with many of its members in a daylong series of discussions. “I think that our campaign is well on the way to obtaining between $12 million and $15 million that will be necessary to sustain this cam paign,” he said. Anderson discussed a wide range of topics at a news conference, in cluding a new major advertising campaign to “raise my profile with the voting public.” He sprinkled his statements with criticism of President Carter, Re publican presidential nominee Ronald Reagan and the GOP plat form. Earlier in the day, Anderson aides filed nominating petitions with the state Board of Elections in Springfield. Although candidates need only 25,000 valide signatures to be slated on the Nov. 4 general election ballot, Anderson submitted 160,000 signatures. “I want to do well in the state of Illinois in November and I think the petitions are a good start,” Ander son said. Referring to court challenges of his nominating petitions in other states the Illinois congressman said his aides have “made good progress on the legal front despite the efforts of the Democratic National Com mittee to frustrate our efforts. . . “We have filed in 19 states with total electoral votes of 209,” he said. “In the next two weeks, we will be filing in 19 more states with total electoral votes of 227.” PROBLEM PREGNANCY? The deaths of junior Mark R. Dare of Houston and senior Jam es M. Vanderwilt of Pasadena bring the total number of student fatalities during the 1979-1980 academic year to 20, believed to be an all-time high. Nearly a month remains in the current term. Dare, a 20-year-old junior major ing in building construction, died June 21 from injuries received in a Houston traffic accident, making him the 11th student in less than a year to die in an auto-related inci dent. Vanderwilt, a 21-year-old senior in nuclear engineering, died July 20 in Pasadena after a sudden illness. Since Silver Taps — the tradition al service honoring currently- enrolled Aggies who have died — is not held between Aggie Muster on ‘ April 21 and the begihning of fall classes, all students who die during that time are included in a major ceremony in September. The first Silver Taps of the new academic year, scheduled for Sept. 9, will also honor Gehrig D. Feuge of Rankin, Jayson G. Harris of Hamilton, Kevin D. Hanlon of Sau gus, Mass., Juan X. Riojas of Eagle Pass and Thomas H. Newman of New Braunfels. Peruvians inaugurate new leader United Press International LIMA, Peru — President Fer nando Belaunde Terry, overthrown in a 1968 coup, began his first full day back in office Tuesday, ending 12 years of military rule in Peru. The 67-year-old American- educated architect was sworn in Monday at a ceremony attended by American first lady Rosalynn Car ter, who was to fly Tuesday to Puerto Rico. Gen. Francisco Morales Ber mudez, the leader of the former military regime, shouted “Viva Peru” as he left the presidential palace. A few hours later, Belaunde Ter ry, who was rudely shoved out the back door of the palace 12 years ago by armed troops, entered it once again through the front door. Belaunde Terry made an aston ishing comeback in presidential elections last May, winning 45 per cent of the popular vote in a race crowded with 15 candidates. He said there was “no rancor” against the armed forces, but he criticized them for “uncontrolled spending” that left the nation of 17 million people in a state of “pauperi zation.” DEPRESSED?
