Cnitvd Press Inlcrnational DALLAS — Jimmy Carter’s first campaign jaunt of 1980 to Texas was scarcely four hours long, but long enough to bring rain to farmers and to collect more than $6(X) ) 000 to use in his re-election efforts. The well-heeled party members who arrived at Jess Hay’s fashionable north Dallas home in their Cadillacs and Continentals netted a cool $630,000 for President Carter. Hay, a former finance chairman for the national Demo cratic party and the Carter election committee, entertained Carter and 126 couples for a 90-minute, $5,000 per couple dinner. However, if a hat had been passed among the 150 neigh bors gathered Monday outside security lines a block from the Hays' residence, the receipts would likely have come up short. ”1 don’t suppose there are too many in this neighborhood who will be voting for Carter,” one resident said. "Most people around here are in business and are conservative. This is Reagan country. And picking (George) Bush won’t hurt Reagan’s chances in Texas. “Still, it’s exciting to have the president in your neigh borhood. And our streets have never been cleaner, I think the city came through here twice cleaning the streets and patching the potholes.” At the Union Station, where about 1,000 people paid $10 a head to hear the president, the mood was different. Plumbing contractor C. W. McCaskin could hardly help but note the difference between Carter’s stop and the weekend visit to Houston by the Republican ticket of Ronald Reagan and George Bush. “President Carter comes to town and it finally rains,” he said. "It didn’t rain when Bush and Reagan went to Hous ton last weekend. If Carter can bring rain to Texas, he’s going to carry this state easy.” Texas Democrats accompanying President Carter brim med with confidence and even said the GOP had done them a favor in nominating Reagan. After arriving at Love Field at 4:25 p. m., Carter went by helicopter to visit a Justin, Texas farm in ruins from the 28 day heat wave. The farm received a small amount of rain just hours before Carter arrived. Bani-Sadr to choose prime minister soon United Press International Iranian President Abolhassan Bani-Sadr said Tuesday he would name his choice for prime minister in the next two days, a move that could clear the way for parliament to de cide the fate of the American hos tages, the state radio reported. Bani-Sadr’s statement came just as Iranian newspapers reported five more Iranian military officers were executed for trying to overthrow the regime of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and another six men were emmy rncts spictus! The five executed Monday were the second group of military men to be executed for their part in the overthrow attempt. Five other offic ers were killed early Sunday. The radio said Bani-Sadr told par liament he would name his choice for prime minister today or Thursday. He made the statement after taking the oath of office before the assem bly. He was first sworn in before Khomeini in February, before the parliament was formed. Reports from Tehran said it is be lieved Bani-Sadr will name either Mostafa Mir-Salim, deputy interior minister and head of the police de partment, or Mousa Kalantari, road and transportation minister, as his choice for prime minister. Both men are believed to be acceptable to the fundamentalist Islamic Republican Party, which has a clear majority in the parliament and whose head. Ayatollah Moham med Beheshti, is Bani-Sadr’s arch rival. Beheshti also took the oath as head of the Supreme Court. Once a prime minister is approved, the parliament will be in a position to begin debating the fate of the 52 American hostages, held for 263 days. Khomeini has told the parliament that it must insure that the prime minister and his Cabinet “are 100 percent revolutionary and ideologic ally motivated.” The Azadegan newspaper said five officers were executed Monday at Evin Prison. The Bamdad newspap er reported a third group of officers was put on trial Monday afternoon at the prison, north of Tehran. The trials are closed to the public but Iranian state television crews are filming them for later broadcast. The British Embassy in Tehran said five journalists working for Brit ish, Danish and Turkish television organizations were arrested Monday by Iranian authorities. O’Hair show begins on Austin cable United Press International AUSTIN — Madalyn Murray O’Hair began a weekly television program Tuesday to counteract the time given by television and radio stations to religion. “Radio and television give enor mous amounts of time to religion, but when I demanded equal time the FCC would say there was absolutely no controversy about religion to day,” O’Hair said. She hopes to use her show to ex pose to masses of people what she views as the hypocrisy and greed of organized religion. “I’m elated,” O’Hair said, noting she has fought unsuccessfully for nearly a decade to win regular televi sion time to present her views. O’Hair, 61, the atheist who won the 1973 Supreme Court ruling against compulsory prayer in public school, said her television show, “American Atheist News Forum,” will air initially on Austin Commun ity Television Station, a local cable affiliate, each Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. The show will be written and directed by O’Hair. “We are going to be dealing most ly in exposes of what’s going on in the religious community, how organized religion interferes with the political process, the churches’ vast real estate holding and how organized re ligion rips people off selling bonds in violation of SEC regulations and then defaults.” O’Hair has had a regular radio program broadcast by up to 50 sta tions across the nation for the past decade but said competition from rock music has cut the number of stations carrying her talk show to 23 or 24. Officials of the community televi sion company and Capital Cable Co. said no one has protested the atheist program receiving prime time but acknowledged they would not be surprised at an onslaught of com plaints Tuesday. Electric bill $3,618, a bit outrageous United Press International MELVILLE, La. —Joseph Ryder knew he had been running the air conditioner a lot last month — but $3,600 worth? Ryder usually pays about $100 a month for electricity, so he knew the $3,618 bill was a little too high. He met Monday with officials of South west Louisiana Electrical Member ship Cooperative and reached a com promise settlement. SLEMCO agreed to refund Ryder for an overpayment of about $200 he said he made in February 1979 — crediting that to this month’s and next month’s bill — and wiped the $3,600 charge off his records. Utility officials blamed the high bill on either a problem in reading his meter or feeding the data into the computer.
