I Local boater John Bugge also Paced in the championships, taking Ithird place in the men’s solo canoe _ ..iBivision. ission is 25? fflt f Shively and Edwards, both na tionally accomplished competitors in both kayak and canoe, have teamed up several times in the past to win championships, and have won sever al individual trophies. “There was a lot of competition in this championship,” said Edwards. “It was good to see that much com petition coming to our Texas cham pionships.” Edwards said the heat along with the length of the courses were major problems. “I was tired and hurting after a few races,” she said. She noted that in the finals of the men’s aluminum doubles competi tion, Shively and Harris had prob lems because they had water splashed into their boat by their competitors. “They were boat to boat with the other guys,” she said, “and when you’re paddling hard the bow wake of the other boat can come right into your boat. “Mike and Robin were paddling THE DIFFICULT WE DO IM- 5 MEDIATELY, THE IMPOSSIBLE .
