DALLAS — SMU Athletic Direc-
Russ Potts says the school will
iveabaseball team next year only if
:mbers of this year’s team are in-
rested.
Potts told the players Monday that
iff 1 would honor the existing scho-
s and would play a Southwest
fence schedule in 1981 if the
ivers were interested.
I wanted to tell the players now
tause several of them have indi-
I that they might transfer to
ler school,” Potts said. “If most
the scholarship players want to
nsfer, we would not have a team,
.they wanted to stay, we would,
jvever.”
^ 'ottssaid the main problem was if
fU has a team next year, a player
o transfers would not be eligible
e> play immediately. If SMU drops
<1 :team, those players who transfer-
$ Iwould be eligible immediately at
ither school.
"Hold the members of the team to
nk about it and let me know by
JtMonday,” Potts said. “My ma-
concern is for the players. I’m
Jally supportive of any decision

pitching of Ken Forsch and pace the
Houston Astros to a 3-0 victory over
the Cincinnati Reds.
Forsch, 3-0, struck out two and
walked three in notching his first
complete game and first shutout of
the season.
The Astros scored their first run off
Reds’ starter Charlie Leibrandt, 1-2,
in the fourth inning when Joe Mor
gan led off with a single to right, stole
second and, after an infield hit by Art
Howe, scored when Enos Cabell hit
into a double play.
Cedeno’s homer, after Jose Cruz
reached on a fielder’s choice in the
sixth, slammed high off the left-field
foul pole to give the Astros’ their final
two runs.
The Reds mounted their only scor
ing threat in the fifth when Ray
Knight reached on a fielder’s choice
with two out, Cesar Geronimo dou
bled and Leibrandt walked to load
the bases. Forsch then struck out
Ken Griffey to end the inning.
With the defeat of Cincinnati,
Houston moves to within half a game
of the Reds, who are in first place in
the National League Western Divi
sion. The two teams face each other
again today at 7:05 CST in Cincin
nati.
