AUSTIN — Texas quarterback
Donnie Little suited up for prac
tice Tuesday, but after running
through a few plays found he
could not continue and retired to
the sidelines for the rest of the
workout.
Little missed last week’s meet
ing with Baylor with a foot injury.
The Longhorns worked with
only four halfbacks due to the sea
son ending injuries to A.J. Jones
and Rodney Tate. LeRoy King
ran at first-team left half and Brad
Beck was the starting right half
back. Two freshmen, Carl Robin
son and Darryl Clark, ran on the
second team.

Oilers looking fopic
playoffs Sunday
United Press International
HOUSTON — The home stretch
for the streaking Houston Oilers re
sembles a mine field but it does not
lend itself to any light-stepping,
Bum Phillips said Tuesday.
“Against physical teams we cannot
afford to wait and see what happens.
We have to hit them first and then
take our chances,’’ said the Oilers
head coach as he prepared his team
to take the first step Sunday.
Houston travels to Cleveland and
then finishes its regular season at
home against Pittsburgh and Phi
ladelphia.
His team appeared healthy after
three days off this weekend, but the
possibility of a letdown with a playoff
berth virtually in the bag worried
Phillips.
The Browns, 8-5, enter the game
off a tough overtime loss to the Steel-
ers Sunday.
“I’m sure the loss took a lot out of
them,’’ Oilers center Carl Mauck
said.
The Browns are backed against a
wall, two games behind Central Di
vision leaders Houston and Pitt
sburgh, both 10-3.
“I’d a heck of a lot rather have to go
up there with them two games back
than one game back,” Phillips said.
Houston can clinch at least an
AFC wild card playoff berth with a
win and move to within one game of
