(UPI) — The community of Bunche Village in Jef ferson Parish has no skyscrapers, but fire officials believe in pre paredness on a grand scale. The parish council has bought a $293,000 fire truck with a 100-foot aerial tower designed to fight fires in high-rise buildings and rescue victims trapped as high as 10 stories. 1 A spokesman for Ladder Tower Inc. of Lancaster, Pa., which is as sembling the truck, said it is “with out doubt the most modern unit in the United States.” The tallest buildings in the Bunche Village vicinity are three- story apartment complexes — but they are not in Bunche Village proper. However, Aaron Broussard, dis trict councilman, justified the pur chase. Streets in the village, he said, often are blocked by railroad cars which can delay firefighters’ arrival at a fire. “As I understand it, this truck has the capacity to project a stream of water over the train and put out the fire at a school on the other side of the track,” Broussard explained. Besides, he said, “Anytime we get federal money to buy firefight ing equipment, I think we should get the best money can buy.” Touch Colling available in most areas. Empress—Rotary and Touch Calling.
