Snack area monitoring begins today in library Eet THE BATTALION MONDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1979 Page 5 ROOM’S Babysit For You By CYNTHIA THOMAS Battalion Reporter Students will no longer be able to sneak soft drinks and candy out of the Sterling C. Evans library lounge and snack bar if a new policy works. Beginning today, the entrance will be monitored to stop students from carrying food into the rest of the library. The problem of people taking food and drinks into other areas of the library has gotten out of hand, said Deborah Brown, a resource de velopment librarian. She said the li brary has had to call an exterminator more frequently than usual because of. the problems with insects and mice, and that the carpets have been damaged from wasted food and drinks. “You can go any place on any one of the floors and see empty Coke bottles and chip and candy wrap pers,” Brown said. “It seems to me that people just don’t think about what they’re do ing.” Brown said monitors will proba bly be stationed at the top of the stairs at the entrance to the lounge. If this idea fails, the student lounge may close and the vending machines will be taken out, she said. Emma Perry, the head of the cir culation division, said Alvin Witcher, J.W. Davis and Phil Blackburn will be monitoring the post outside the lounge. Witcher, Davis and Blackburn were the door monitors for the library for many years before the new addition was built.
