Abilene Cooper, No. 1 in Class AAAA ahead of Plano, is idle this week. “We don’t count on things like that to happen year in and year out, so we’re going to go after the district championship outright this year,” Kimbrough said, referring to the help Plano received last year to make it out of district. “We’ve got a strong district, there’s no question about that. We’ve tried to prepare this week as best we could. “We can’t single out one game, the district is just too strong. We’ve got to get ready each week, and that’s what we plan to do. It’s too early to worry about the playoffs.” Kimbrough said there were so many good things that have to hap pen to advance to the playoffs that one just can’t worry about them this early in the season. “I’d just say I’d like to be back in the playoffs if we can make it,” he added. Other key Class AAAA games find fourth-ranked Lake Highlands host ing Sherman in another District 13-AAAA battle; seventh-ranked Houston Stratford hosting Lamar Consolidated; and eighth-ranked Conroe hosting South Houston.
