He is in a hospital and will be hospitalized for a while.” Dear indicated the boy’s parents might fly to Dallas Friday. With a dearth of solid clues, myriad theories had been spun about Egbert’s disappearance — many inspired by his somewhat bizarre lifestyle. The young man, who finished high school in two years, was known to be active in homosexual groups on the MSU campus. He was described as a devotee of an intellectual fantasy game called “Dungeons and Dragons,” which has a cult-like following at many col leges, hut Dear said the game had nothing to do with Egbert’s disap pearance, which was shrouded with an aura of silence and mystery from the start. But the boy’s grandmother re jected such speculation. “He was not playing a game with everybody and we never once thought so,” she said.
