The Oilers moved 85 yards in eight plays, capped by Johnson’s touchdown catch on their next pos session. Fritsch’s extra point at tempt hit the right upright. Campbell’s third touchdown ended an 83-yard, eight-play drive on the Oilers’ first possession of the second half. Pastorini, despite the three inter ceptions, completed 12-of-30 passes for 176 yards. Theismann hit on 7-of-14 for 123 yards and the two touchdowns while throwing one in terception. The Redskins turned a pair of pass interceptions into second quarter touchdowns for their 17-6 halftime lead. Rookie Ray Wabby returned a Pastorini pass to the Houston 44. Theismann passed 13 yards to Danny Buggs before Riggins got eight yards and Malone 10, setting up Theismann’s 8-yard scoring toss to Fugett. Redskins’ comerback Lemar Par rish swiped another Pastorini pass and returned it to the Oilers’ 36. Riggins went straight ahead for 12 yards, Malone picked up 14 more and three plays later, he leaped the stack from the 1-yard line with 3:17 left in the half. Moseley’s first field goal came after Buddy Hardeman returned a punt 52 yards to the Houston 22. Fritsch’s first two field goals were from 41 and 46 yards, both in the first quarter. Alan Ameche of the Baltimore Colts gained 194 yards in his 1955 debut. Septien had kicked field goals of 37 yards in the first quarter and 24 yards in the third quarter. The sec ond score gave Dallas a 13-7 lead before veteran Cardinals’ defensive back Roger Wehrli recovered a Dal las fumble and set up the second St. Louis touchdown. Two plays after the fumble recov ery, Pat Tilley snared an 18-yard TD pass over his shoulder from Jim Hart and Wood’s extra point put St. Louis ahead 14-13. After the scoring pass from Springs, who started the game in place of the injured Tony Dorsett, the snap for the Cowboys’ extra point went astray, giving Dallas a 19-14 lead. Anderson’s long touchdown gal lop and the extra point set the stage for the Cowboys’ dramatic one-point victory, disappointing a St. Louis team record sellout crowd of 50,855. Robert Newhouse was the work horse on the ground for Dallas, gain ing 108 yards in 18 carries before leaving in the fourth quarter with a twisted ankle. Dallas quarterback Roger Staubach completed 20-of-34 passes for 269 yards, while Hart was 12-of-29 for 112 yards and two inter ceptions.
