Glen Lane, graduate student in medical physiology, is the 1979 re cipient for his work on the intersti tial space between cells and the lymphatic vessesls that drain that space. No other college of medicine or research center is believed to have won the Lamport Award twice con secutively. In 1978, associate professor Dr. Harris Granger won the Lamport Award for his work on fluid ba lances. Lane, 29, is a graduate of Garden Grove (Calif.) High School. He completed a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and master’s degree in physics at the University of South western Louisiana before coming to Texas A&M. He has been granted a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fel lowship to continue his work here. Faculty members given dean posts Two long-time faculty members have been confirmed by the Board of Regents to top administrative posts at Texas A&M University. Fahlquist, 53, was named assis tant dean for academic affairs in the College of Geosciences. Both ap pointments are effective September 1. Phillips joined the Texas A&M fa culty in 1967 as a professor of fi nance and served the past year as interim dean of the college of busi ness. He received his doctorate from Vanderbilt University. Fahlquist came to the university in 1963 after receiving a Ph. D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technol ogy and served most recently as a professor of geophysics and oceanography. He succeeds Dr. Joseph Sonnenfeld who is returning to fulltime teaching and research. New engineering head appointed Dr. Donald McDonald, a member of the Texas A&M faculty since 1973, took over Aug. 11 as head of the Department of Civil Engineer ing. The appointment was announced by Vice President for Academic Af fairs Dr. J. M. Prescott. More than 80 faculty teach in five civil engineeing groups devoted to studies in coastal, hydraulic and ocean engineering, environmental engineering, construction, materials and structural engineering, geoen gineering and civil systems en gineering. Many civil engineering faculty members also hold joint ap pointments in the Texas Transporta tion Institute and the Texas En gineering Experiment Station. McDonald, with industrial man agerial and senior research experi ence with the Lockheed Missiles and Space Co., held joint appoint ment in the experiment station.
