Hank Small’s sacrifice fly drove in Pat Rockett in the eighth inning and broke a string of 30 scoreless innings pitched by the Astros. Rockett reached base on an error by shortstop Craig Reynolds, making the run unearned. Houston took a 2-0 lead with an unearned run in the seventh.
