Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney and Wings will be featured in a 90-minute
special, “Wings Over the World,” which is a collection of
footage from the group’s world tour of 1976 plus a profile of
McCartney’s career since the Beatles broke up in 1970. The
program will air March 16 on CBS, and provides films of the
tour that have never been publicly shown. Except for news
coverage at the time, no films of the tour have been re
leased.
As one of the two chief songwriters and personalities
within the Beatles, McCartney has held an important place in
the lives of literally millions of his followers, both during his
years with the group and after their breakup. Unlike other
members of the group, or any of the Beatles’ musical col
leagues, he has remained an entertainment figure with ap
peal to all ages.
In 1976, audiences crowded auditoriums all over the world
to spend an evening with Paul McCartney and Wings. The
10 years that had passed since his last American stage ap
pearance increased fan anticipation. Among the selections
performed in the concert footage are “Band on the Run,”
“Yesterday,” “Live and Let Die,” “Jet” and “Silly Love
Songs.”
Wings’ success has been recorded in a number of gold
and platinum albums, and their 1977 release, “Mull of Kin-
tyre,” is now the all-time bestselling single in Britain.

THE BATTALION
COVER
Very few musicians can silence a roomful of conversation as well
as Eugene Smith can. His talent and his interpretation of the music
he plays brings a peacefulness to anyone who listens, and best of
all, to Eugene himself. Which is part of why he does it.
