The acting head of the Depart ment of Wildlife and Fisheries Sci ences, Dr. Wendell Swank, said the Kleberg chair will enable Texas A&M to seek out an individual of eminence in the field of ecology. Dr. Robert Merrifield, associate director of the experiment station, added that a search committee has been formed to review prospects for the position. However, he said that filling the chair will take time. “This isn’t like filling a normal fac ulty position,” he said. "We are loot ing for the pre-eminent leader in the field to fill this prestigious research and teaching post. Miller noted Texas A&M has reached a stage in its development where endowed chairs and profes sorships are essential. “This would provide the resources to attract even more outstanding pro fessors to the campus,” he said.
