(CORNER OF COULTER & TEXAS AVE.) For the first time at Texas A&M, next spring there will be four courses offered which deal with the study of women. “It’s kind of an event for Texas A&M,” said Dr. Diane Strom mer, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts. The courses are Sociology 489, Women and Work in Contemporary Society; Psychology 300, Psychol ogy of Women; History 489, A His tory of Women; and English 373, Women Writers. “These are solid academic courses,” Strommer said. “We won’t be just sitting around chit chatting about what it’s like to be a woman. “They’re not for women only, either,” she said. For example, many men today are likely to have wives who work, she said. The course on women and work in today’s world would be in teresting to them. Strommer said the history course was offered because most history courses deal mainly with battles and political events. “There has been another history that society has ig nored,” she said. The psychology course will in clude topics such as sex-role stereotypes, biological and psychological sex differences, and current family, marriage, legal and work trends. The course on women writers will concentrate on novels, and will in clude studies of Charlotte Bronte, Virginia Wolfe, and George Eliot.
