CULPEPPER PLAZA 693-3003 Judicial hoard voids constitution The student government judicial board Monday night invalidated the Student Body Constitution that cur rently guides student government. The board voted 6-1 to invalidate the student referendum that ratified the constitution last spring. Bobby Tucker, student body president, said Monday that the rul ing will leave student government basically the same. Under the new constituion, the speaker was given power to appoint a recording secretary and, more im portantly, fill senate vacancies. Tucker said he will simply reappoint Judy Rippel as secretary. He also said that the senate can create any committee it wants to, and that it may form a new committee to lill vacancies. Changes in the executive vice presidency are mainly in title. Tucker said Tom Paterson will con tinue to perform the same duties as his executive assistant. In the unlikely event that the president resigns, the senate would choose the new president from among the five vice presidents. Under the new, invalidated con stitution, the executive vice presi dent automatically would become president. The judicial board decision also eliminated a new senate committee on member qualifications. But, as Tucker said, the senate can recreate the committees. The senate also has the option of changing the constituion before re submitting it to students for ap proval .
