Kenate Bill 850 created a “strike” jsystirm to eliminate the names of fVojters who had moved from their irkipus addresses. Striking these Hnes off the list served to clear and Relate the voter files. ■\nyone whose name was re eved from the lists was able to vote through June 29. Now, they would have to re-register. i The first list printed after the strike off left us with only 24,238 voters, a decline of 12,221, said Buddy Winn, Brazos County Tax Assessor-Collector. Since then we have taken over 2,000 more names from the lists.” "Approximately 3,200 people have re-registered and we now show 27,489 voters,” said Winn. Anyone who has moved within Brazos County and has not re registered must do wo within 30 days of any upcoming elections in order to vote. Registration takes seven to ten days if the application is mailed in. Any new residents of the county, inckiding Texas A&M students, who wish to vote in Brazos County and are registered elsewhere, must sur render their previous registration by mailing it in with the new appli cation. “Voter registration applications can be obtained from the county tax office, banks, city utility offices and some large supermarkets,” said Winn. “And any group or club on the Texas A&M campus can contact me and I can either send them the number of applications they need. or drop them off myself. ” Registration cards, sent out every two years, were mailed to every voter in December. “Since it is against federal law to forward voter registrations, the cards belonging to those who had moved were returned to us, and in accordance to Bill 850, we struck their names from the list,” said Winn. SDA discovers milk in time United Press International flDALLAS — Cottonseed meal which had been contaminated with . cancer causing aflatoxin was bought by a West Texas cottonseed broker and later was successfully isolated. Milk from the livestock who ate the was destroyed. A spokesman for the U.S. De- rtment of Agriculture in Dallas said Wednesday a cottonseed broker in Bovina, Texas, had purch- ed 2,000 tons of the contaminated foduct from the Paloma Ranch in Arizona. Cottonseed meal is used as a feed for livestock and dairy cattle. Janies Anderson, a USDA inspec tor, said the contaminated cotton seed had been isolated and that all milk produced from it had been de stroyed. None of the contaminated milk was sold. A state investigation in Arizona traced large amounts of aflatoxin to the Paloma Ranch and ordered use of the cottonseed to cease. Scientist differ regarding how much aflatoxin is dangerous, but it has been proven to cause cancer in laboratory mice. WALTON Stained Glass Studio Announces new classes beginning week of September 5.
