Texas AiSrM s 1978-7.9 Corps of
Cadets is the largest in six years.
Corps members number
2,215, and the strength.could in
crease in the next week or so, ac
cording to Col. James R.
Woodall, commandant of the
Corps.
Tlie Texas Aggie military is at
its largest since September 1972,
when there were 2,227 men
enlisted. It is almost 3 percent
larger than 1977.
"We have about the same
number of freshmen, in the
range of 725," noted Lt. Col. Don
Johnson, assistant to the Com
mandant.
The increase in Corps strength
can be attributed to several lac-
tors, officials indicated. Chid
among them is recruiting efforts
during high school v isits and
Corps member recruitment at
summer new student conler-
ences. The Commandant s Olliec
and Corps ol Cadets joined
forces in the ellort.

NEW YORK — “Cats and dogs
aren’t eating as much meat as they
used to,” says Ruth Ann Manners,
author of a recently published veg
etarian cookbook. “When you buy
food for pets these days it’s often
meat in name only. What you may
get is a high proportion of hy-
drolized vegetable protein and soy
flour, with little or no meat — only
meat byproducts.”
But the absence of real meat in
these pet foods is not all bad, says
Manners who, with her brother-in-
law, William Manners, has written
“The Quick and Easy Vegetarian
Cookbook. ”
“The vegetable ingredients in pet
foods, derived from soy beans, con
tain exactly the same high quality
protein as meat, and at a fraction of
the cost,” she says. “Corn, barley
and wheat are other good ingre
dients in these foods, and cats and
dogs seem to thrive on them.”
