Pets now getting vegetable diets TTXK—T=X>C UNIVERSITY EFRIGERATORS FREE PICK-UP & DELIVERY 846-8350 United Press International NEW YORK — “Cats and dogs aren’t eating as much meat as they used to,” says Ruth Ann Manners, author of a recently published veg etarian cookbook. “When you buy food for pets these days it’s often meat in name only. What you may get is a high proportion of hy- drolized vegetable protein and soy flour, with little or no meat — only meat byproducts.” But the absence of real meat in these pet foods is not all bad, says Manners who, with her brother-in- law, William Manners, has written “The Quick and Easy Vegetarian Cookbook. ” “The vegetable ingredients in pet foods, derived from soy beans, con tain exactly the same high quality protein as meat, and at a fraction of the cost,” she says. “Corn, barley and wheat are other good ingre dients in these foods, and cats and dogs seem to thrive on them.” 1 mdemp o f < ^ance in Jan Jones Hammond Ages 3 to adult 3406 South College Ave. Texas 77801 713/823-8626 The Soft Touch Welcomes The Students Back to College! 15% OFF Any Merchandise With Coupon (Expires Sept. 2) J Elegance in lingerie #t Touch 707 Texas 846-1972 It's not for just anyone.
