MSC-OPAS (OPERA and Performing Arts Society) cordially invites you to a season
of entertainment by nationally and internationally recognized artists. Let yourself
relax and revel in the following outstanding events.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18,1978
HOUSTON BALLET performing "THE SLEEPING BEAUTY"
This production, based on the familiar fairy tale, tells of the
beautiful princess who is awakened from her prolonged
slumber by the kiss of Prince Charming. This version of
THE SLEEPING BEAUTY was originally produced by Ben
Stevenson, Artistic Director, for London Festival Ballet and
became their mainstay for many years. Working in conjunc
tion with Mr. Stevenson was Peter Farmer, one of the
world's leading designers. This 52 dancer production has
received world acclaim for its "infectious vivacity". Mr.
Farmer's sets and costumes bring the stage to life with
"a contrast of colour and sparkle". Don't miss THE
SLEEPING BEAUTY — an evening of exciting dance in
beautiful Rudder Auditorium.

ORCHESTRE du CAPITOLE de TOULOUSE —
Michael Plasson, Conductor and
Philippe Entremont, Guest Soloist
In Paris, L'ORCHESTRE'S sensational debut was marked
by the kind of extraordinary anticipation accorded only a
few concerts in any year. Winner of two of France's top
awards, the Prix de L'Academie de Disque and-the Prix de
L'Academie Charles-Cross, L'ORCHESTRE'S performances
are constantly received "with a profusion of interminable
ovations". Entremont's scintillating combination of French
brio and brilliance, his innate musicality, extraordinary
artistry and phenomenal technique place him "in the select
company of the world's finest pianists": OPAS is proud to
present this dynamic, exciting orchestra on its debut tour
of the United States.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14,1978
PINCHASZUKERMAN, VIOLINIST
PINCHAS ZUKERMAN has unquestionably established him
self as one of the greatest violinists of this century. He was
praised by the TIMES of London as being "absolutely with
out peer among violinists". The NEW YORK POST stated,
"PINCHAS ZUKERMAN has a luxuriant talent. His com
mand of the violin is so natural and’so inborn that tt\e most
difficult passages appear one after the other — each with
an easy 'hello' — a succession of conquests". ZUKERMAN
has played as soloist with most of the great orchestras
of the world and has performed as part of a duo with Isaac
Stern. This will be his second appearance in this community.

A FESTIVAL OF RUSSIAN DANCE
Swirling figures, leaping men, beautiful women, colorful
costumes and exciting music combine to make A FESTIVAL
OF RUSSIAN DANCE an evening of entertainment not to be
missed. A kaleidoscope of dance from all areas of the Soviet
Union, the company is composed of the finest dancers Russia
has to offer. The Georgians thrill you as they dance "in
pointe", the women do traditional "round" dances with all
their lyrical beauty; and all the joy, exultation and virtuosity
associated with Russian dance abounds. See A FESTIVAL
OF RUSSIAN DANCE —you'll be enthralled.

TEXAS OPERA THEATER performing COSI FAN TUTTE
this is one of Mozart's merriest musicals, about a cyrtical
old bachelor determined to prove that all women are fickle.
Two young couples fall prey to his plot, and their amorous
antics are pure fun. This opera was first produced in Vienna
in 1790 and consists of two acts. The TEXAS OPERA
THEATER has wonderful costuming, makeup and setting;
meticulous direction, plus generous quantities of talent.
COSI FAN TUTTE is energetic, entertaining, and in English;
so it's easy to understand. A delightful evening for the
whole family.
