CHILD ABUSE: The Texas House of Representatives Select Subcommittee on Child Abuse in Texas will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. in the MSC 145. Six state representatives including Bill Presnal of Bryan will listen to testimony con cerning the growing problem during the session. Movie begins at 8:45 p.m. ‘Pilgrim Pope’ takes last journey in ceremonial funeral procession United Press International VATICAN CITY — Paul VI, the "Pilgrim Pope” who visited six con tinents during his 15-year reign, took a last brief journey sealed in a plain wood casket Wednesday from the summer palace where he died to St. Peter’s Basilica, his final resting place. An estimated 200,000 persons lined the 15-mile route from the Castel Gandolfo summer palace to the Vatican. The trip took one hour and 38 minutes. Watching over the cortege along the route were about 5,000 police men, honor guards and anti terrorist agents mobilized by Italian authorities to prevent incidents, clear the way for the cortege and sa lute its passing. Motorcycle deaths increase since helmet late repealed AUSTIN — The president of an insurance company information service Tuesday said states that have repealed mandatory use of motorcycle crash helmets have ex perienced a radical increase in fatal motorcycle accidents Jerry Johns, president of South western Insurance Information Service, said a national report indi cated that motorcyle deaths have in creased 32.8 percent in the 22 states that have repealed helmet use laws in the past two years.
