The storm, which grew out of a tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico last week, veered south of its expected touchdown point in Tuxpan Monday night and instead whipped across lush citrus groves and farmland. I A spokesman for the Gulf Hur ricane Forecasting Center said the storm hit land late Monday night with winds of about 62 miles an hour. “The storm lost force quickly when it made a landfall and I doubt if there was much damage,” the spokesman said.
