Page 6 THE BATTALION THURSDAY, MAY 4, 1978 Two space craft will go to Venus United Press International MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Two Pioneer space-craft will be launched for Venus between May 20 and Aug. 7 to make the first detailed survey of the cloud' planet’s atmosphere and sur face. Pioneer-Venus is the first proj ect devoted to studying the at mosphere and weather of any planet, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration said. One of the Pioneer-Venus missions will employ a multi probe that will split into five separate spacecraft. Each is targeted to make measurements from the top of Venus’ atmo sphere to the surface where it will crash. The other mission is an orbi- ter, which should circle Venus for a minimum of eight months.
