Head Football Coach Emory Bol lard must not think that the voung freshman from Humble is valuable enough to A&M’s track program to leave him out of spring training. Mosley once again took charge of the Aggie’s efforts. Mosley won the long jump with a leap of 23 feet 8 inches, first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.8, third in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.39 and ran the first leg of the winning 400- meter relay team. He was high point man of the meet with 33 points. Another Aggie that will be lost to the track is Curtis Dickey. Dickey cruised to a victory in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.21. He also anchored the 400-meter relay team which had a time of 40.0. Dickey, who is the NCAA Indoor 60-yard dash champion, scored 15 points. The Aggie thinclads will lose a pos sible 48 points to spring football training with Dickey and Mosley leaving. Coach Ted Nelson said, “That is really going to hurt us being without Mike (Mosley) and Curtis (Dickey).” llIllIIlfTlllMMT Aggie Blood Drive Sign Up Dates March 28, 29, 30 ■HU llflHfe. Dickey and Mosley will be lost to the A&M track team for four weeks. The Aggies did win the City of Palms Track and Field Meet in McAllen. The Ags beat Rice and a floundering University ofTexas team in a triangular meet. A&M had 80.5 to Rice’s 55.5 and Texas’ 33. There were other notable per formances besides Mosley’s and Dickey’s. Manfred Kohrs upset Rice’s Mike Novelli in the 1,500- meter run in a time of 3:46.9. The 400-meter rely team of Mosley, Ray Brooks, Leslie Kerr and Dickey ran a 40.0 to give them the third fastest time in the nation in that event. With the loss of Mosley and Dickey the Aggies will have to wait until the Southwest Conference meet to improve on their relay time. While the men were busy in McAllen, the women were trying to clear hurdles at the Texas A&M Women’s Relays. The women placed fourth but had several tough breaks during the meet which might have made the difference between fourth and second. It was not a good day for the hurdlers. Linda Cornelius was run ning in the 100-meter hurdles when she hit a hurdle and did not qualify for the finals. Later in the day, Cindy Bartlett was nearing the finish line in the 400-meter hurdles when she hit the last hurdle but managed to get up and finish fifth. The final blow came when the Aggies could not enter their mile relay team because of in juries Ileana Hocking had sustained after running the 800- and 1500- meter runs. The women were in sec ond place just before the mile relay. The women competed very well against a strong field of teams which consisted ofTexas Women’s Univer sity, which won the meet, Prairie View A&M, Florida State, Wiscon sin and various teams from Texas. Head track coach David Williams said, “Most of the teams were sprint oriented, that is they are very strong in the shorter races,” He said A&M is not noted for its sprinters yet the women competed well and managed to stay within “striking range” of all the teams. Several women qualified for the national meet. Jan Chesbro qualified in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 8 inches. Iris Tipton will be going to the national meet in the snot put with a qualifying toss of 44 feet 3 inches. Linda Cornelius, possibly A&M’s best athlete, will compete in the pentathalon which is five differ ent events. Martha Sartain qualified in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:27.22. Ileana Hocking has also met the requirements in the 800- meter dash. Coach Williams said he expects other women to qualify before the national meet. om am . ■%!
