Blocker is a 1945 Texas A&M graduate and a member of the Texas A&M University System board of regents. The couple’s gift was made through the Aggie Club, an organiza tion dedicated to raising scholarship funds for the university’s student CITGO donates funds to support A&M programs ay Cities Service Foundation ofTulsa (CITGO) presented $6,000 this week in support of programs at Texas A&M University. Frank Vitrano and Dick Conley of CITGO’s energy resources group said the donations include $3,000 for petroleum engineering, and $1,000 each for A&M’s tectonophysics, geology and geophysics program. The representatives explained to President Jarvis Miller and other university officials that the gift would be for unrestricted use by the pro grams. B. J. BLANCHARD Blanchard named director of center Appointment of Dr. Bruce J. Blanchard as director of the Re mote Sensing Center of Texas A&M has been announced by Harry E. Whitmore, Texas Engi neering Experiment Station as sociate director. Blanchard has been an as sociate research engineer in the center and associate professor of agricultural engineering since 1975. He succeeds Dr. John W. Rouse, who resigned to become head of electrical engineering at the University of Missouri at Co lumbia. Blanchard becomes the second director of the Remote Sensing Center, which was organized in 1968. It is recognized as one of the leading research organiza tions in earth observations. He is a native of Naples, N.Y., and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1949. He earned advanced degrees in civil engineering and environmental science at the University of Okla homa. Blanchard has been involved in earth resources measurement and analysis of data from aircraft and spacecraft systems for the past nine years. He was formerly with the U.S. Department of Ag riculture Research Service at Chickasah, Okla. He worked in remote sensing applications in water resources and also as a hy draulic engineer with the US DA Southern Great Plains Watershed Center. Blanchard is on the Univeristy Space Research Association’s Sci ence Committee for Earth Re sources. The nine-member committee helps coordinate ac tivities for universities involved in space research. He is also the only university representative on the Seasat- Synthetic Aperture Radar Exper iment Team. Blanchard will be responsible for land-related ex periments with the system. Scheduled for launch in 1978, N. Seasat will carry the first radar DR. R. E. THOMAS Thomas becomes new acting dean Dr. Richard E. Thomas has been named acting dean i neering at Texas A&M Univer sity, announced Dr. J.M. Pre scott, vice president for academic affairs. The appointment follows! naming of former Dean Fred] Benson to the newly createdp» tion of vice president for eui neering and non-renewables sources. “We are extremely pleasedt have a person of Dr. Thom qualifications and administrate experience to serve as acting dean,” Prescott said recently ! am confident that he will provide strong leadership for the College| r of Engineering during this interim period.” Thomas has been associate dean of engineering since 1912, and his association with Texas A&M dates hack to 1964. He taught and conducted researchin the aerospace engineering de partment until 1969, when he ac cepted the chairmanship of the aerospace engineering depart ment at the University of Man land. He returned to Texas A&M in 1971. In conjunction with his ap pointment as associate dean Thomas has served as directorolj Texas A&M’s center for urban programs. He is a member of the Polic)| Advisory Committee of thej Applied Research Program ofthel National Science Foundationandl also serves on the Nationa!!
