The races, which are open to students, faculty, and staff, are set for Saturday, October 22, at 2:00 p.m. The site for competition will be the street encompassing the A&M Drill Field. The area will be closed off to traffic for the event. Options for competition are the following: CLASS’ A B C A A RACE DISTANCE . Men’s Open 20 laps (10 miles) . Men’s under 28 lb. division 12 laps (6 miles) . Men’s over 28 lb. division 8 laps (4 miles) . Women’s division 5 laps (2.5 miles) . Team division 20 laps Each competitor may ride in one individual race and in one team race. All USCF licensed riders must enter the “Open” division for th eir individual competition. The team race will consist of 2 riders and one lap counter. Bicycles must be furnished by each cycler; a ten speed is recommended. All handles must be plugged and shoes must be worn. Awards will be given for the first place in each division. The IM Office is providing All-University T-shirts for all winners; while the Wheel World, sponsors of the A&M Cycling Team, is donating trophies. Entries open Monday, September 26, and will close Tuesday, October 4. To register for the special event, cycle over to the In tramural Office at DeWare Fieldhouse. For more information call 845-7826. Flag Football Kicks Off The flag football season got underway Monday and from all reports the participation and com petition is good. There have also been good reports on the mostly rookie staff of officials. Remember, these people are trying to do a good job so, please cooperate. The football leagues will consist primarily of 4-team leagues but all leagues will play at least 3 games. Everyone goes to the playoffs so, don’t despair if your preseason isn’t too good. Playoff competition wiH be single elimination and teams will be shifted out of the AB and BC classes according to their win-loss record. Games will he played Monday thru Thursday and Sunday afternoons. Hoping for “the slam,” Gary Danielson stretches to reach a high one. Gary is competing in the Corps division. Class AB. Players are reminded to check by the IM Office well ahead of time for match time, place, and opponent. Dorm and Corps unit directors are encouraged to keep their people on top of scheduled matches. Before the match begins be sure to check in with the court-side official and also report your scores afterward. Most of the courts are scheduled for intramur als up until 11:00 p.m., however, matches may be played earlier than scheduled times if arrange ments are made through the IM Office.
