Insurance board keeps accused attorney on staff United Press International AUSTIN — The State Insurance Board voted unanimously Saturday to keep on the job an attorney ac cused of trying to intimidate a member of the Travis County Grand Jury. “It’s a serious matter and we’re being very deliberate,” Board Chairman Joe Christie said. The three-man board deliberated for nearly two hours and met briefly with the accused attorney, Jasper Clarence Thomas, before deciding to take no action. Christie said the board consi dered everything from a reprimand to firing Thomas but decided no ac tion should be taken until the legal case is decided. “Until that matter is resolved it would be premature for us to take any action,” Christie said. Thomas, 52, is free on $1,000 personal bond. He has been a hear- iry being qualified ir millionaire s trial I Coming ings officer with the state agency since June 1, 1973. District Attorney Ronnie Earle filed charges against Thomas late Friday accusing him of threatening a board secretary, Kathie Cisneros, who is serving as a member of the Travis County Grand Jury. The Austin Citizen, in a copy righted story Friday said Thomas was overheard telling the secretary she would lose her job if the State Insurance Board chairman was in dicted. Ironically, Miss Cisneros, 35, is not serving on the special grand jury investigating the insurance agency but another panel considering routine cases. Thomas’ attorney, Frank Maloney, said the remark to the secretary was made in jest and Miss Cisneros took it the wrong way. “It was a matter of levity. All it was was a joke. Davis, 43, has been indicted for two murders and two attempted murders but Dowlen said he did not have jurisdiction to combine the cases for one trial. Davis will be tried for the Aug. 2 shooting death of Andrea Wilborn, 12, daughter of his estranged wife, Priscilla. The child was alone at Davis’ million-dollar mansion on Moc kingbird Lane in Fort Worth while her mother and boyfriend, Stan Farr, dined with friends. Mrs. Davis testified at a bond hearing last December she and Farr returned home to find the security system turned off. While searching the house downstairs, Mrs. Davis said her husband stepped from conceal ment, said, “Hi,” and shot her in the chest. Farr raced downstairs and was shot four times. While the gunman was moving Farr’s body, Mrs. Davis slipped outside but was caught by the assailant who was dragging her back toward the mansion when another car arrived. The gunman shot and wounded Gus Gavrel Jr., escort of Beverly Bass who was to spend the night at the Davis home. Miss Bass and Mrs. Davis fled the 18-acre estate while the intruder re turned to the house, possibly to re load his pistol. Soon We're expanding our line of German & European im port.
