Reveille IV will be having fiin in
the sun this summer with Jeff
Gruetzmacher, a freshman meteor
ology major from Liverpool, Tex.
Gruetzmacher applied for the job
ofkeeping Texas A&M University’s
mascot because it is the highest
honor of Company E-2, he said.
Company E-2 is responsible for
Reveille IV and sees to it that she
makes all the football games. Often
members of the company make per
sonal contributions to ensure that
Reveille IV attends all the games.
Gruetzmacher said he lives in a
rural area so Reveille IV will have
plenty of room to romp about this
summer.
Reveille IV went to Liverpool re
cently to try out her summer home.
Gruetzmacher said that Reveille IV
got along splendidly with his
dachshund.
Reveille IV is now able to sit,
shake hands and heel on command
after attending a training course at
the Canine Hilton in Austin. She
breezed through the six-week
course in only four weeks,
Gruetzmacher said, and stayed the
additional two weeks for further
education.

the sick. Teaching the sinful,

ILLUSIONS: The Adventures of
Reluctant Messiah is Richard
lach’s first book since he wrote
mathan Livingston Seagull seven
ars ago.
It carries the same message as
agull: Find out what you really
ant to do — then do it.
Fortunately, it avoids becoming
I mathan Livingston Seagull, Part
The author meets the messiah
during his own barnstorming stints.
He soon becomes obssessed by
Shimoda and his theories on life and
reality.
The world is an illusion, Shimoda
says. Accept that, and anything you
want is yours.
We are given a glimpse of the
Messiah’s Handbook, a manual on
saving souls and understanding life
used by every messiah from Christ
to Mohammed.
“The world is your exercise book,
the pages on which you do your
sums,” says the Handbook. “It is
not reality, although you can ex
press reality there if you wish.
“You are also free to write non
sense, or lies, or to tear the pages.”
This the Gospel of the Is.
Bach becomes a disciple, an ap
prentice savior. He picks up the
basics quickly. Levitating
wrenches. Walking on water.
But accepting that nothing is real
and everyone is free to do as he
chooses is too much for him to bear.
ILLUSIONS is written in the
same tight and simple style as
Jonathan Seagull. It is short enough
to read in an evening, but too stun
ning to forget.
Bach strips away reality as we
know it and gives us a new reality:
our dreams.
