COLLEGE STATION ACROSS FROM RAMADA INN 10°/< we re going to be peaking. I have peaked them too early in the past. Last year we really peaked during the Texas Tech match and just weren’t ready for the championship tournament.” As it was, the Aggies defeated Tech but finished second in the state tourney to Richland College. The Aggies will face one of their biggest tests this weekend, accord ing to Giunta, when they host Louisiana State University’s team. “Wrestling is a varsity sport in the Southeastern Conference,” Giunta explained. “So it’s naturally a varsity sport at LSU and I believe they have about 20 scholarships.” At Texas A&M wrestling is a club sport and the Aggies are not able to give scholarships. “We wrestled with one Louisiana team (University of Southern Louisiana) last year and they waxed us. But we have a better team this year. “We think we have a good chance at winning with the first three guys and in the 167 and unlimited. If we can win by pins in those and have the guys in the other divisions stay off their backs in their matches we will have a good chance.” A win in a division can come by two methods. A pin—pinning both the opponent’s shoulders against the mat for a full count—is worth more team points than a decision. The winner in a decision is deter mined by points credited the wrestlers by a referee. The Aggies will meet LSU in DeWare Fieldhouse Saturday at 1 p.m. Admission is free. Giunta’s wrestlers will enter the match with a 10-1 record in dual matches, boosted most recently by a 36-15 win over Texas Tech. Wrestling on their home mats, the Aggies won seven of the ten matches with four pins. Bob Be- nevento had the fastest pin, taking down David Walker in 29 seconds. Benevento, an Aggie co-captain, competed in the 134 pound division. The weights for each division is a maximum. A welcomed surprise win for the Aggies came from Steve Marchang. Marchang, normally a competitor in the 177 pound division, moved up to the 190 category and won a deci sion over Tech’s Joe Chappel, 6-1. Embrey’s Jewelry We Specialize In Aggie Rings.
