All the Cougars need to wrap up he Southwest Conference cham- lonship in their first year to com- te, is to defeat cross-town rival ce in their final SWC game Satur- Yeoman says the Cougars will be ady. “They know what’s involved .and they know what’s at stake,” ■••HI feoman said. “I don’t think there’s any doubt that we ll play with great concentra tion.” The Cougars, 7-2 for the season, had great first half concentration last week when they jumped off to a 24-5 halftime lead over ninth ranked Tech. The Raiders got the momentum and scored two fourth quarter touchdowns. It wasn’t until the final three min utes when freshman safety Elvis Bradley intercepted a pass deep in UH territory, that Yeoman could breathe easier. “I closed my eyes the final three minutes of the game,” Yeoman said. “We’ve got to learn to finish what we start. I think our concentration left us in the fourth quarter. They were trying real hard but not concentrat- in g” , , The Owls will got into Saturday s game against the Cougars with little to cheer about other than quarter back Tommy Kramer, the nation’s leading passer. But Yeoman figures that’s plenty of a problem. “Kramer is a fine quarterback,” Yeoman said. “There’s no doubt what they’ll be doing Saturday.’ Cowboys ready Michael Murphey. " “Football is a great game-like our free enterprise system,” said Landry. “Neither rewards you for complacency or sitting around. You can’t get something for nothing. It caught up with us.” Landry said he wasn’t all that con cerned over Atlanta’s 17-10 upset going into the National Conference Eastern Division showdown with St. Louis Thanksgiving Day. “When I get most concerned is when we play hard and get beat,” said Landry. Landry said “I’m very confident going into the Cardinal game. I think we will play well. But the Cardinals are actually in better shape than we are. We haven’t won a big game since we played Washington. The Cardinals have.” He said Dallas’ problems against Atlanta can be traced strictly to men tal preparation. “It’s been a long football season and it’s difficult to stay at a high pitch,” said Landry. “Everything is at stake now. Our mental attitude is good.” Landry said wide receiver Golden Richards, who was sidelined for the Atlanta game with a pulled ham string, had been working out and was a probable starter against the Cardinals. “St. Louis should be favored,” said Landry when told the oddsmak- ers favor Dallas, “until somebody proves they are not the champion. & ® "EPIC.” MARCA REG. © 1976 CBS INC.
