The “Fish” Drill Team will be part of the traditional Corps march-in at the Oct. 23 football game against Rice University at A&M’s Kyle Field,” Drill Team Association Pres ident Steve Pelham said. “So far the team is shaping up fairly well,” Pelham said, “and after a few more weeks of basic drill we ll get into fancy competition drills.” The team will send the 35- member A Platoon to its first drill competition on Dec. 4 in Houston against units from the University of Houston, the University of Texas, Texas A&I, the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of Texas at El Paso. “Of the 95 freshmen who came to our first meeting, we now have 68 working out,” Nicholas said. “They dropped out mainly because of schedule conflicts and the long hours required for practice. Our member ship will probably go down depend ing on mid-term grades,” he said. In practice the team uses modified, nonoperational 1903-A3 Springfield rifles with plastic stocks. The same model rifles with wooden stocks and chromed metal are used in performances. Officers heading the organization include the senior advisor, two junior advisors and five sophomore advisors. ‘ TP *UDeiv SPORTING GOODS 9H S.
