Aldrich Jr. and Archie Dykes. Dr. Aldrich, chancellor of the University of California at Irvine, will speak at 3 p.m. on the years 1976-2061. He will be followed at 4 p.m. by University of Kansas chancellor, Dr. Dykes, who will comment on his as sessment of new paths being charted for higher education. Both seminars, to be held in the Rudder Theater, are part of Texas A&M’s day-long Centennial obvser- vance and are open to the public. Dr. Aldrich, now the senior chan cellor in tne nine-campus University of Califo rnia System, was named to his present position in 1962 and given the responsibility for develop ing UC-Irvine. He later served as chairman of the De partment of Soils and Plant Nutrition on the Davis and Berkeley cam puses, and in 1958 was named dean of UC’s Division of Agricultural Sci ences. He is a past president of the Na tional Association of State Universi ties and Land Grant Colleges and is a fellow of both the American Associa tion for the Advancement of Science and the American Society of Ag ronomy. Dr. Aldrich earned his B.S. de gree at the University of Rhode Is land, M.S. at the University'of Arizona, and Ph.D. at the Univer sity of Wisconsin. He also holds an honorary doctorate from the Univer sity of Rhode Island. Dr. Dykes was appointed chancel lor at the University of Kansas in 1973 after serving in a similar capac ity at the University ofTennessee at Knoxville and the University ofTen nessee at Martin. He began his career in education as a high school history teacher in Tennessee and subsequently served as a principal and superintendent be fore accepting a position as a profes sor of education at the University of Tennessee in 1962. He later served as director of the Center for Ad vanced Graduate Study in Educa tion at Memphis State University. In 1966 he worked as administrative as sistant to the president of the Uni versity of Illinois under an American Council on Education post-doctoral fellowship.
