S 16H% V- ^rA/C^X- FlRST DAY ON THE JOB, I Kl/N INTO A WEIRDO! n E=X rrrr Landmark site is destroyed Associated Press SABINE PASS — The 91-year- old keeper’s house and several out buildings at the historic Sabine Pass lighthouse were destroyed late yes terday afternoon, victims of a marsh fire. The 85-foot brick lighthouse to wer, built in 1856, was not damaged. No effort was made to fight the marsh fire, a common occurrence in the grassy, coastal region. The lighthouse and buildings are on the Louisiana side, hut can only be approached by shallow draft boats from the Texas shore of the Sabine River. The surrounding area was also blackened by marsh fires. The ten-room wooden house was built in 1887 to replace an earlier building swept away by a hurricane. The tower served as a beacon on the Texas-Louisiana coastal border until 1952. The committee also makes rec ommendations regarding course loads and further English training for the nearly 1,000 international stu dents on the A&M campus. Angelis, faculty member at Texas A&M since 1974, is joined on the committee by assistant deans of academic colleges and officials from the Admissions Office and English Language Institute. He is also involved in planning the program for the 1977 convention of the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs, in his new role as director of professional services for the association’s section in the As sociation for the Teaching of English as a Second Language.
