The students, all members of epheid Variable Science Fiction nd Fantasy Committee, attended anquets, watched science fiction lovies, and attended writing semi- lars conducted by prominent sci- nce fiction authors. A favorite spot for the delegates as the dealer’s room, where they could buy anything from Star Trek posters to electronic bow ties. The guest of honor at the conven tion was Robert A. Heinlein, a highly respected and popular au thor. His speech to the delegates drew a large crowd but met with mixed emotions in the A&M group. Don Cravens, Cepheid Variable member, said that Heinlein did not use any notes or the public address system. Cravens added, “The speech was a little rambling, but for a man who’s 69 years old, it was pretty good.” —John W.
