Msgr. Lefebvre said Tuesday that during the Mass this Sunday he will ordain a priest in accordance with the Latin rites banned by the Pope. Msgr. Lefebvre ignored appeals from the Pope and celebrated Mass in Latin for some 7,000 Roman Catholic traditionalists in the north ern French city of Lille on Aug. 29. His Mass this Sunday will be cele brated in the Besancon indoor sports stadium. The Roman Catholic church has for several years required that Mass be celebrated in the language of the congregation. Henry Ruth named counsel for funds WASHINGTON — Former Watergate Special Prosecutor Henry S. Ruth has been named gen eral counsel for the Health and Re tirement Funds of the United Mine Workers. Funds Chairman Harry Huge an nounced the appointment Tuesday. He said Ruth will oversee trial and appellate litigation and advise the trustees on implementation of the funds’ health and pension plans. Ruth succeeded Leon Jaworski as head of the Watergate Special Pros ecution Force in 1973. Since leaving that post last year, he has served as principal research associate with the Urban Institute. Kennedy. Nonetheless, Rusk said, the inves tigation into Kennedy’s death should not be reopened “if fresh informa tion is not available. ’’ The Warren Commission con cluded that Kennedy was slain in Dallas in November 1963 by one man, Lee Harvey Oswald. Surgery success for FBI director WASHINGTON — Surgery on FBI Director Clarence Kelley to re lieve nerve pressure from a slipped vertebra “was an even greater suc cess” than Kelley expected, and the director has returned to work, a spokesman said. Kelley, who was operated on Aug. 16 in his home town of Kansas City, Mo., was back in his office Monday. 'Family' members reunited in prison SAN DIEGO — Charles Manson “family” members Susan Murphy and Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme are practically roommates again. Miss Murphy, 34, and fellow in mate Diane Ellis, 33, captured in Oregon last week after escaping from Terminal Island federal prison in Los Angeles, have been imprisoned in the Metropolitan Correctional Cen ter, a year-old prison that is consid ered escape-proof. Miss Fromme, 27, is serving a life sentence here for attempting to as sassinate President Ford last year. Miss Fromme and Miss Murphy were roommates in Sacramento, Calif, at the time of Miss Fromme’s arrest. Miss Murphy had been held in Los Angeles for conspiracy to send threatening letters to businessmen she accused of polluting the envi ronment. Miss Ellis was jailed on a parole violation after being con victed of bank robbery. Betty Ford to open Chicago festival VAIL, Colo. — First Lady Betty Ford, a onetime dancer herself, will fly to Chicago this weekend to open the Fifth Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival. The festival Sunday is expected to attract 12,000 spectators and 2,000 dancers from the United States, Canada, Brazil, Venezuela, Ger many and Great Britain. Mrs. Ford will arrive in Chicago on Saturday, ending a vacation stay at Vail. She will return to Washing ton late Sunday. Pension rejected by House member WASHINGTON — House Minority Leader John J. Rhodes says he won’t accept a military pension as long as he is in Congress. The Arizona Republican says he agrees with the position of the Na tional Taxpayers Union that mem bers of Congress should not accept federal pensions in addition to their salaries. Rhodes, who is to begin receiving a $500 monthly pension next month for service as an Army colonel, said he will return the pension. Tornadoes traced in Chicago area CHICAGO (AP) — The incidence of tornado activity in the Chicago area is greatest between the hours of 3 and 7 p.m., during the months of April, May and June, according to a study done by University of Chicago meteorologists. The final outcome of the project is a map that traces the paths of all tornadoes in the area for the past 100 years. University meteorologist Theodore Fujita researched the sub ject through historical records and the records of the Chicago office of the National Weather Service. Each tornado is indicated by a red line, and the time and date of occur rence, as well as the intensity of every storm, is included. Singer Kate Smith leaves hospital Associated Press NEW YORK — Singer Kate Smith has been discharged from Boulevard Hospital, where she was being treated for a throat infection. No report on her condition was released, but a spokesman for the hospital said on Tuesday that Miss Smith, 67, “had been improving.” Miss Smith was admitted to the hospital over the past weekend.
