The Texas Aggie golf team, fresh
off a 13th place tie in the All-
American Intercollegiate In
vitational (AAll) golf tournament,
are preparing for the next S.W C.
tournament to In- held Friday and
Saturday at Waterwood National
Country Club. The club is located
east of Huntsville on Lake
Livingston
The club directors have scheduler!
a practice round on Thursday with 36
holes being played on Friday and 18
on Saturday
The Aggie entries are Monte
Schauer, Steve Whiteside. Bobby
Baker. Doug Ward. I^arry Corzycki

Schauer was the Aggies' best
finisher in the AAII tournament, be
ing for 19th place His four-day total
of 298 was 18 strokes in back of win
ner Chip Beck of Georgia. Day was

Other Aggie finishers were Bobby

Oklahoma State, shooting even

1,152. AAcM’s four-day total was

A most valuable player was not
named this year for the 1975-76
Texas A&M University basketball
team — three players share the title
Coach Shelby Metcalf presented
awards to Barry Dav is (6-6, 210), Ray
RolM-rts (6-4, 200' and Sonny Parker
(6-6, 195' for lieing selected as the
three most valuable players on the
Fightin Texas Aggie basketball
team.
The awards were presented at a
banquet that was held Friday night
in Houston's Hyatt Regency Hotel
Each memlier of the team was
presented with a team picture and
would have also received Southwest
(inference championship rings, but
the rings have not been delivered.
The staff and close affiliates of the
Southwest Conference champs also
were presented with team pictures.
The voice of Aggie basketball,
Mike Mistovich. attended the affair
and did not approach the mi
crophone except to receive the pic
ture which Metcalf presented to the
sports announcer.
The evening went smoothly ex
cept for the loud music which came
from a rock band playing in the adja
cent ballroom When Emory Bellard
approached the podium and began
to speak, he said that he did not
know- whether he should talk or
dance.
Dr. Shelby Metcalf told how-
tough it is to be a champ. He told the
crowd that if a person is to be in
command out in the world, he must
also be in command at home.
"And I want you to know that 1
have breakfast in lied every morn
ing," Metcalf said.
"Of course I have to cook it my
self... but...”

Darcey Ehmann s throw of 131-9
won second in the discus, w hile her
effort of .34-9 was good for third in the
shot nut
Debbie Timmons clocked 1:14.67
to win second in the 400-meter hur
dles. while Martha Sartain ran the
880-yard dash in 2 30 57 to take
third
Kay Kings berry finished third in
the mile nin with a time of 6 35.16.
The team of Kingsberry . Lyman.
Ehmann, and Diane McCrady
finished the two-mile relay in
12 49 46 to take second
The top three finishers in each
event, plus any other athlete who
made the state qualifying standard,
qualified for the state meet to lie
held here at Kyle Field April 30.
