Page 6 THE BATTALION THURSDAY, NOV. 20, 1975 Isolated hut ideal party spot By STEVE MOORE Battalion Staff Writer Renovation has started on the qu- onsett hut party facility at Ea- sterwood Airport. While technically “off-campus” the facility is on university-owned land, and was fo rmerly used for storage by the sail ing club. Located about two miles west of the University Street by-pass, the hut sits back from the road in a cl earing. Due to its isolated location, the hut has the potential of being an ideal party spot without the usual traffic and noise problems. Pr esident Williams is expected to ap propriate funds for the facility. The Residence Hall Association (RHA) will be given first priority on the bu ilding, due to its initial support of the project. Student volunteers will do ca rpentry and other such tasks, while plumbing electrical work and other certified labor will be handled by the physical plant. “The main idea behind using st udent volunteers was to save mo ney,” said Dr. Charles Powell, Di rector of Student Affairs. The idea worked, reducing the construction bid of $39,000 to $24,495. The bid covers the addition of such things as plumbing, restrooms, ventilation equipment and a small kitchen. The projected date for completion of the project is January 1976, although the hut is being used to a limited extent now. The hut is needed as a gathering place for student organizations due to the lack of such facilities off- campus. Booking problems have ar isen with such places as Indian Lake, Knights of Columbus Hall and the American Legion Hall due to overcrowded schedules. Places such as the Shiloh Club will not book university events because of damages incurred at previous pa rties. The hut is large and open with a high ceiling. RHA hopes to retain this in the remodeling. They are also naming the hut. Student volunteers are invited to help with the project. For informa tion, inquire at the RHA office in room 216 of the MSC. THE GREATEST SANDWICH The greatest sandwiches in the Southwest are served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day Monday through Friday on floor 11M, Conference Tower. The greatness of these sand wiches is no accident. There are several types of meats and you can select your choice and mix or match any three pieces for your sandwich on the bread of your choice. Two of the several types of bread are sour dough and baked fresh daily in our Duncan bakery. Further, these breads are prepared without shortening for the diet conscious guest. For the greatest taste tempting delight just make your sandwich exactly like you want it and pop it into one of the handy micro-wave ovens. This wonderful sandwich and a bowlol soup for only $1.50 plus tax will place you on cloud 11M. We agree this is a bit of a long story, but it is difficult to stop talking about our tasty sandwiches. Open Sunday 11:00 A.M» - 1:30 P.M. for regular meal only. “QUALITY FIRST” Parking operations fund reaches a/most $1 million By LEE ROY LESCHPER, JR. Battalion Staff Writer The University has almost a mill ion dollars available for maintenance and normal operation of parking fa cilities, Robert Melcher, student se rvices administrative officer, told the University Traffic Panel ye sterday. The $902,976 in the traffic ma intenance account consists of a net $460,000 collected from motor ve hicle registration and violation fees this year, and a balance carried over from the ’74-75 account, he said. Parking lot maintenance and re novation constitute primary use for the funds. $193,371 will go for ad ditions to parking areas 24 and 36, and additional paving on the street between the tennis courts and the Southside Apartments. $7000 in damage done to lot 61 may also be paid out of the account. The damage, caused by heavy trucks used by on campus co ntractors, may be repaired at the expense of the contractor, panel ch airman Vergil Stover said. Eugene Ray, director of grounds maintenance, presented a summary of parking lot construction and re novation for the next five years. $130,850 in construction on ei ghteen lots is projected for 1976 in Brazos County sets blood drive for next week The Brazos County Red Cross blood drive for November will be getting underway Monday. Bea Uvacek, co-chairman of the local blood program, says the Red Cross Bloodmobile will be set up in the A&M Consolidated School Dis trict Special Services Bldg, at 1300 Jersey St. on Monday and Tuesday from noon until 6 p.m. She said ap pointments to donate blood are re commended since the faculty and staff of the school district are scheduled to donate blood during both days. Uvacek pointed out that, in order to keep sufficient blood available at all times, 200 units of blood are needed each month from Brazos County residents. The Red Cross blood program provides blood for Bryan and St. Joseph Hospitals. Persons wishing to make an ap pointment to donate may call the Bloodline at 822-9107. TOptnamba 9a? the report. Total estimated parking renova tion for the years 1976 through 1980 is $453,650. Higher priority will be given to maintenance of present lots than building of new lots, Ray said. About one half million dollars will remain from the fund after ma intenance costs for the year are de ducted. Stover suggested considera tion of those funds for building of additional parking facilities. Any new lots would probably be constructed some distance from the main campus because of space li mitations, Stover said. Such co nstruction would probably be across Wellborn Road on the west portion of the campus. TYPING SPECIAL RATES Academic & Professional CALL OR COME BY W.T.A.
