We’ve got outstanding senior lead ership, and you’ve got to have that to win championships. You won’t see a team win a championship without it.’ As for the seniors Metcalf feels that all of the seniors have im proved. “Barry and Sonny and Ray have all improved noticeably,” Met calf said. Gates Erwin, the other senior, has missed two weeks be cause of a muscle tear. “Barry’s lighter and he’s im proved his speed and quickness. He jumped well last year, but he’s jumping better this year. And he was aggressive last year, but he’s more aggressive this year. “Of course Sonny is like a Russian Cosmonaut, he’s just out of this world. He can make some unbe- lieveable moves and what’s impres sive is that in the same situaHon he will make different moves,” Metcalf added. The Aggie boss also praised senior co-captain Ray Roberts. Ray is doing a fine job, like always. We’re going to need to keep Sonny, Ray and Barry in the game as much as possible.” Terrell, Ponies sock Panama squad, 112-95 Associated Press DALLAS — Ira Terrell scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds here Tuesday to lead the Southern Methodist University Mustangs to a 112-95 exhibition basketball victory over the Panama national team. Terrell, who was playing his first game after spending a year on prob ation, was the big man for the Mus tangs, who pulled down 83 re bounds. Errol Howard had 21 points for the Panamanians to tie Terrell for scoring honors. The starting lineup looks like this at this point for the opener with Wayland Baptist: Barry Davis at the high post with back-up help from Wally Swanson. The low post posi tion is still undecided with a battle going on between Wally Swanson and Jarvis Williams, both freshmen. “They will probably divide time there all year with Wally going more against a zone because he’s a fine shooter and Jarvis going more when we re in a zone press because he’s quicker,” Metcalf said. Parker and Roberts will start at the wings and will be backed up by Steve Jones and Joey Robinson. “All four of them are good shooters and they all have good speed on the press,” the coach noted. Freshman phenom Karl Godine will start at the point guard and will be backed up by Erwin. “We played nine people last year and will play nine this year. Our top nine are good athletes and it wouldn’t surprise me if our starting five by conference time is better than our starting five was in our con ference opener last year,” Metcalf said. “There are a lot of good seniors around the league, and there are quite a few good newcomers. It should be very interesting. We need to play a game and get experi ence. And after we get going, I think we’ll do all right.” The Aggies will play four home games in December. The Ags will host Wayland Baptist Dec. 1, Southwest Texas State Dec. 3, Houston Baptist Dec. 6 and Sam Houston State Dec. 9. Beat the Hell out of Insurance Rates also t.u.
