Bean showed he was more than just any ball-carrier in school history with a superb 94-yard dash that lifted him to the throne of all-time A&M career rusher as well as bump ing him up two places on the all- time SWC list to the No. 8 spot, as well as setting a record for the longest scoring play from scrim mage in the 81-year history of foot ball at this University, (breath!) He almost didn’t make it. “Bujnoch cut oil the safety . Wher 1 saw all that open field for some reason, 1 started laughing. I hyper ventilated and when 1 got to the end/.one, I almost passed out. If it had been ten yards farther, I wouldn t have made it, said Bean. Bean replaced Smith as the No. 8 man on the SWC list. His long run also wiped out the previous long-scoring record from scrimmage also held by Bob Smith who went 81 yards against Tech in 1949. The Ags went on to win that game 26-7. Bean wasn t one to talk of records, though, T wish I could have broken it at home. But I hadn’t given it much thought. I felt I would get it sooner or later. What was impor tant was winning the game Bean, said. Bean also had a scoring run of 47 yards earlier in the game on the same play, a pitehout on the right side, with Bujnoch leading the blocking duties with the right side linemen. There are some others still chas ing the rushing king, also. Halfback Skip Walker now has 1,665 yards and needs 72 more to pass up Larry Stegent for the No. 3 spot behind Bean and Smith. Bucky Sams with his 28-yard el- fort at Tech moved past Jack Pardee and Wendell Housley to take over the No. 9 spot with 1,031 yards. Richard Osborne took in another pass and needs two more to pass Bob Long for the career receptions No. 2 spot. He needs 10 more yards to pass Homer May for the No. 3 spot in all-time receiving yards. Soccer team outdoes scrappy Lamar, 4-3 Merdhad Farrokhnia scored two goals to lead the Texas A&M Soccer team to a narrow, shorthanded 4-3 win over scrappy Lamar. Lamar scored first but was promptly tied by Farrokhnia. Steve May er put the Ags in the lead 2-1 after picking up a ball the Cardinal goalie could not handle. Farrokhnia then started the sec ond half by outclassing the Lamar defense to put the score 3-1 in favor of the Ags. Right Wing and club president Jim Davis was thrown out of the game after a controversial call which left the Lamar goalie injured. Be fore recuperating from the loss and playing a man short, the Ags found themselves tied at 3-all. Paul Oliver took the situation into his own hands, pulling from defense to the front to save the game for the Ags with five minutes left. The win leaves the Aggies with a 4-1 record this season, the best in several years. This weekend they will travel to Houston where they take on League champs UH and Rice. The Ags only loss so far this season was to UH. w Pumpkin Time is Party Time Shop our party department for Hallmark paper partyware and accessories.
