Two of the several types of bread are sour dough and baked fresh daily in our Duncan bakery. Further, these breads are prepared without shortening for the diet conscious guest. This wonderful sandwich and a bowl of soup for only $1.50 plus tax will place you on cloud 11M. We agree this is a bit of a long story, but it is difficult to stop talking about our tasty sandwiches. ‘QUALITY FIRST” Since last week’s column (Aggie Fans Hard to Please?) I have heard quite a few comments about it and me. I wasn’t knocking all Aggie fans. I think that Aggie fans are the greatest fans in the world. I was talk ing about the Texas-or-nothing fans — the ones that don’t care what happens just as long as the Aggies beat Texas. Quite a few people have told me that they were glad to see that someone thought the way they did but a few have also asked me ifTexas wasn’t most important who was? I may be sadly mistaken but I don’t think a team has to have a most important team to play. After a suc cessful season it’s common to look back and point out one game as most important, but to do that before a season is committing the sin of sports: Looking ahead. The fact that the Texas game is the last game of the season has a lot to do with it so it will be interesting to see if the attitude changes since the last game of this season is with Arkansas. Hopefully the Ags will have one more game after the Ar kansas battle. Star hurler inks letter with Aggies Duane Walker, left-handed pitcher-outfielder from Deer Park, has signed a letter-of-intent to at tend Texas A&M on a baseball scho larship, according to Aggie coach Tom Chandler. Walker compiled a 13-3 record in leading Deer Park to the state Tournament. He had 215 strikeouts in 139 innings with a 0.30 earned run average. He also hit .430 with 30 stolen bases. In the state playoffs. Walker hit .750 on 15-for-20 with 14 runs batted in. In the bi-district playoffs against Galveston Ball, Walker pitched a one-hitter to win the first game and hit a home run to win the second game. Walker was the starting pitcher for the South squad in the high school all-star game. The starting pitcher for the North squad was Mark Thurmond of Spring Branch, also A&M-bound. 'We’re real excited about signing Walker, Chandler said. “He is an outstanding all-round player. He has exceptional speed and can hit with power as well as being a fine pitcher. We plan to use him in the field. Walker had narrowed his choices to Texas and A&M. “I just liked the atmosphere at A&M,” Walker said. “I have a lot of friends there and the new dorm was very nice. I’m look ing forward to playing baseball for A&M. ’’ By David Walker Which brings me to another point. Will the Aggies be faced with the same situation as last year as far as the bowls go? There are two schools of thought to this. One is that it will indeed be like last year, especially since the Aggies play so late in the season (Dec. 6) and the bowls pick so early. Of course the easy way out is to say, “Win the Southwest Conference and you won’t have to worry about it.” Easier said than done and not completely fair. No one can tell me that because the Aggies didn’t win the SWC last year that they shouldn’t have gone to a bowl. The other school of thought is that Texas and A&M will have such a good season going when bowl picks are made that they will be taken care of by the old favorite, “We ll take the loser of the A&M-Texas game. (Or Arkansas, depending on how the Razorbacks fare in the won-lost column). That’s very large of the bowl folks because they know that neither one of the schools would be a bad risk. Oh well, it’s all fun to talk about now. It will even be more fun after about the third or fourth game of the season. Speaking of football season (and who isn’t) I’ve gotten quite a bit of feedback from my Hooked on Sports column. A good friend of mine from Hous ton, Ron Harrod, wrote last week that he and his 12 year old daughter already had started a scrapbook on the "1975 National Champs.” Later in the letter he said some thing about next year being the greatest year in Aggie sports his tory. While that sounds very op timistic, it’s not completely out of reason. With returning lettermen in all sports and probably the best in coming group of freshman athletes in the school’s history, it doesn’t sound that far-fetched after all. Where else but Sound Center?
