Astrodome wedding fabulous THE BATTALION Page 11 WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25, 1975 By DAVID WALKER uestion. Where would you go if iu wanted to see a gorilla, watch 1 people get married, eat craw- tails and listen to fiddle music itilone o’clock in the morning? nswer: (I’m sure most of you already guessed it) The As- ome, where else, i'es, I can now proudly say that I yebeen to the largest wedding in I history of the United States, |982. (Maybe the world, anyone le their wedding hook handy?) Jwasat the Eighth Wonder of the iprld this past weekend and hap- led to get invited to the Doug iershaw - Pam Eson hash. Of irse everyone was invited (box ieats$4.50, reserved seats $3.50) to ht wedding but not to the recep- iON ■ went to the reception and I have [admit that I douht if I will he going to many parties like that one in the near future. The bash was held in the As trodome Club. When I walked in I noticed that the ABC Wide World of Entertainment camera was look ing me right in the eyes. This was somewhat new to me because Wide World doesn’t get around to many College Station parties. There was food and drink (mostly drink) for everyone. The party got to going real good but was going to have to be cut (■ short because Kershaw was to put on a concert after the baseball 1 game. (Yes, there was a side attrac tion out on the Astrodome play ing field called. National League baseball with the l.\KKMK\V LLIU 3 Miles N.on Tabor Road Saturday Night: Charles Ellison & the Countrymen From 9-1 p.m. STAMPEDE Every Thursday Nite (ALL BRANDS BEER 35 cents) .... LADIES FREE Every Tuesday Nite All Brands Beer 35c 8-12 Music furnished by the Brazos Sounds MEN $2.00 Houston Astros and the Cincinnati Reds probiding the action.) The Reds were making short order of the Astros in record time so someone must have got word to the home guys to keep it going so we could keep our party going. The As tros did tie the game after being behind 0-4 and went on to make it the longest game of the year both time-wise and innings-wise. The game went 14 innings, which ena bled our party to go an extra hour or so. By the time the game was over all of the crawfish tails were gone and the bar had closed so I was as ready as anyone for the concert to start. A surprisingly large amount of people stayed around for the show, around 15,000, and that ain’t bad being that it didn’t get started until after 11 p.m. I guess by now you are wondering where the gorilla comes in. Well he wasn’t at the Dome the night of the wedding, he was there the night be fore entertaining the folks that were sitting in the Lone Star Beer Long Neck section. (You can t expect them to have everything on the same night). Now don’t get scared and not go to the Dome because you are afraid of gorillas because he wasn’t really a gorilla but a man dressed up as one. Someone cracked, “Maybe if they would get a couple of real one’s after the Astros they wouldn’t have to have weddings to draw people.” Well maybe so but I think the idea was a super one because it added a bright spot for the Houston fans in a season that hasn’t had many bright spots, if any.
