f—I (Continued from Page 2) into all of the choices offered her. It is an established fact that all students and former students of Texas A&M are bound together by a mysterious love called the “Spirit of Aggieland. ” These bonds are closer than any that could be established by way of social sororities and frater nities, and it is my sincere wish thatall ofthose involved wi th th ese organiza tions will realize this fact and quit wasting their time and ours. Suzy Falk Intelligent letter Editor: In reading Eliot Lowe’s letter (Let ter battle begins, March 6), I could not help but detect a certain twisted viewofjustice. Lowe says thathad the yell-leader issue reached state courts, this “in itself would not be distasteful; however . . . extensive coverage by thepress and the delay of thecourtinhandlingcases. . .would probably taint the reputation of A&M” Ifbeing in court is not the thingthat is distasteful, Mr. Lowe, what is? What “would probably taint the reputation of A&M”? Surely not the extensive press coverage of our time-honored traditions! You seem torevelinhaving“sneakedonebythe Feds.” Somehow I picture you in Steve Eberhard’s office kissing his senior ring and whispering, “Thank you. Godfather.” TAMU is a university without equals. THE BATTALION Page 3 WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 1975 nationalities. At A&M, everyone from “kickers” to “camel jocks,” and yes, even girls, can learn, not only from books, but from each other. A&M is growing. We must grow with her. Ifsomethingoldisgood, keep it. Ifitisnot, disposeofitwithout mercy. Why do you worry so about the yell leaders’XandYchromosomes?Ifyou truly loved A&M, you would not doubt her inimitabilty. You make an excuse oftradition, Mr. Lowe. When you proclaim, “I’m Old Ag,” it is as if you say, “Don’t talk to me; I’m deaf. I’m retarded. I will not understand you.” It is not your opinions that enrage me. It is those fingers you keep stuf fed in your ears. Blaire McPherson Poor coverage Editor: This letter is in reference to the coverage (or rather, the LACK thereof) of the SWC Championship won by the Aggie basketball team. It is not everyday a team wins a champ ionship, and when the title is brought home by the Aggies, it seems as they they are entitled to much more coverage than they received. Not only did the championship get sligh ted, but so did the beating of the University of Texas. Both of these wins were big stories, yet received little coverage. It seems as though the Number 1 team in the conference has been ig nored nationally for some reason by both APandUPI,butwhenthehome newspaper manages to do the same thing, something is wrong some where! Anyway, congratulations to Coach Shelby Metcalf and to our team for a job well done! Carolyn Wells Cathy Hrncir Kim Walker Margaret Oates Bad letter Editor: As a fish at A&M I have learned to love the traditions which make Texas A&M a unique and superb school. These traditions and this uniqueness cause the school to be known nation wide. I live on thefourth floor ofByrd E. Whiteinthemilitaryquad.Becau.se ofthis Ihavealmost as much exposure to “Old Army” tradition as a member of the Corp of Cadets. This exposure has taught me at least one tradition which you, the editor (Moses) obvi ously have not learned. That is that there is not a school which has the capital letters T.U., or U.T., but there is a small school which has the little letters t.u. Inseveralinstanceslhaveseenthis neuseating first case published. I realize that it may be contained in a letter written toyouin this way, hut if the writers of the letter have enough knowledge to write an intelligent let ter about A&M then they should know better. If they don’t, heaven help them, then they may neverlearn unlessyoucorrectthatslipofthepen.
