By TONY GALLUCCI Staff Sports Writer Monday night the Tiger Club held its annual Basketball banquet to honor the A&M Consolidated teams for ’74-75. A lot was said in the first hour and a half although there wasn’t a whole lot to say but the point was made over and over again. The hard vig orous competition these young men and women engaged in this season brings companionship and is truly the ultimate reward of sports. Aggie assistant coach Bob Gobin gave the address and hopefully in stilled a greater desire in these youngsters to strive for all re wards in life. My sincere congratulations to the players and coaches, mana gers and trainers for a season hard played. And con grats to Cathy Hein, junior, winner of the Girls’ Sportsmanship Award; Beth Mammaliga, senior, winner of the Most Valuable player award for girls. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend any Consol gals games this year but based on players they have sent to A&M they must have a fine team. Pat Ranson won the Boys Sports manship award. Scott Shafer won the Most Valuable Player award. Scott is truly a hustler, and a junior also. The Tigers should be able to build a fine squad around Shafer next year. Six of the 10 varsity players are seniors. Good luck coaches Jim Foreman, Larry Linder, Grant Lee, and Art Bright. Although the game may have been decided in the first few min utes, the crowd never gave up. Sup port such as that is as much a char acteristic of a championship team as the play of the team. However, it has been criticized before me sever al times since the Tech game that the yell leaders quit yelling long before the game was over. Now, come on guys, we need all the crowds support, let’s keep class crowd’s No. 1 on the scream. three race Yamaha International Motocross series to be held at Texas Stadium. After his college days are over, Dawson hopes to run for the green backs of professional football or baseball or perhaps sign a contract with a professional track organiza tion. He says he would like to be come a specialist and run back kick offs or punts. He also casts an eye at baseball where he could be a base stealing threat. He points out that here is already one such player in the big leagues, Herb Washington of the Oakland Athletics, formerly a sprinter at the University of Michigan. The defending Border Olympic 100 champ returns to the scene of his victory this weekend to compete in the meet he calls “the little Southwest Conference’ since all SWC teams, except Arkansas, will be present. How long before he’ll know if he will keep the title? Well, about nine seconds. TEXAS ECONOMY PACK ORANGES 5 a 68 head . 25 * 39* Valencia lb. ^ bag California’" LETTUCE VINE PINK SALAD TOMATOES .
