Well Ifnake way. They moved the Roman coliseum to the Brazos. The masses were there. The Lions were hun gry. And the Christians didn’t have a prayer. Final score Lions 102, Christians 77. It was hard to tell which lion was hungriest after the Ags waxed SMU for their fifth conference win, 13th for the season and sixth in a row. But the bulk of his diet came in the last 15 minutes of the game when he scored 16 points. Barry Davis was the man the first half coming up with 12 points and six rebounds. Davis finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. The Ags made it quite clear Tues day that they were for real. SMU never led and the Ags were as hum ble as a tie only twice at 2-2 and 16-16. Jeff Swanson, the Stangs fresh man superstar from Westchester, outjumped taller Jerry Mercer at the tip, but it went for nought. The first SMU shot was errant. Mike Floyd took the ball down the floor tossed to Davis who layed the ball up nicely. A hand on the glass was caught by the referee and goaltend ing was call. It was the beginning of the end. Swanson scored the first two of his 10 points on the next trip down the court. John Sagehorn and Joe Swedlund picked up six to gether in the next five minutes while Parker himself picked up six, John Thornton got four and Mercer, Floyd and Davis each got two. The game already looked like a runaway when SMU called a timeout with A&M leading 16-8. Four quick bas kets by Swanson, Swedlund, Sagehorn and Rusty Bourquein tied the game up at 16-all. A very partial Ag crowd of 6,190 came to its feet and that was all she wrote. The Ags led by 11 at half, 50-39. In the first half neither team did well on the offensive boards but both excelled on the defensive boards. Caroms were tied 17-all at the half. But turnovers told the dif ference. The Ags had five to the Mustangs 14. Floyd came up with four of the Ags seven first half steals. SMU shot at a torrid 62.9% pace the first half to the Ags 54.5. But the Aggies took 44 shots to the Ponies 27. The second half was different. The Ags were consistent more than ever before. The Mustangs acted as though they spent the half in a deep freeze. A&M hit 53.6% to SMU s 38.4%. Clockwork Maroon is the best way to describe it. The Aggie press the second half looked Swiss made. It produced eight straight points midway through the second half to give A&M a 25 point lead. Chuck Tone did the damage then with three jump shots in a row. With three and a half minutes left the Ags took a final bow with a 29 point lead. Swedlund and Sagehorn led SMU scorers with 14 each. Swanson swept the boards clean with 12 re bounds. Teamwise the Ags out- rebounded SMU 42-38 and out- fouled them too, 26-16. But the Ags hit just one less free throw than (See AGS, p. 10) Razorbacks keep pace, beat Horns FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas Razorbacks, behind the 16 point performance of senior Kent Allison, used a tenacious de fense and a four-corners stall offense in the second half to defeat the Texas Longhorns, 56-52, Tuesday night. Allison also grabbed seven re bounds to pace the Hogs in that de partment. Both teams started slowly, but soon picked up the tempo as the Hogs posted a slim 29-26 halftime lead. Tom Weulert dropped in 16 points and pulled down seven re bounds for the Longhorns. As an Advanced ROTC student, you are eligible to apply for USAA insurance—for your car, personal possessions, and per sonal liability. USAA is an association of officers serving fellow officers with the lowest possible premiums, quick and fair claims settlements, and a sharing of dividends. (Though not guaranteed, USAA has been paying dividends every year since 1924.) You may save as much as $20 to $60, depending on where you live, on auto insurance alone. And a special USAA feature, the Household Goods Policy, is available to insure your personal property at home, at school, or in your car, for only $10 per year per $1,000 of insurance protection. Small wonder more officers insure with USAA than all other insurance companies combined.
