The program will be held in room 607 of the Rudder Tower and is sponsored by Sigma Delta Chi, the Society of Professional Journalists. Center Magazine is a local publication and serves as a guide to Bryan and College Station. NSF accepts fellowship applications Preliminary applications are being requested for National Science Foun dation Graduate Fellowships in 1975-76. The fellowships are awarded for study or work leading to masters or doctoral degrees in the mathematical, physical, medical, biological, en gineering, and social sciences and the history and philosophy of science. Diamond Century Club holds dinner The Diamond Century Club will honor its members at a dinner Friday at the Aggieland Inn. University President Jack K. Williams and Richard Weirus, executive director of the Association of Former Students, will be on the program for the event. Membership in the Diamond Century Club is based upon donation of $1,000 or more to the annual fund which is utilized by the Association of Former Students to support several TAMU programs. Guess which is a better hedge against inflation. Guess again. The belief that common stocks (or long term Government bonds) preserve capi tal better than BB&L savings accounts simply isn’t true. In periods of inflation, this presumption is even more erroneous. The chart below tracks asset (cash-in) values of a $10,000 BB&L savings ac count, compared to the same amount of Dow Jones average industrial stocks and U.S. Treasury bonds. Note that on very few months in 9 years could an investor pull his savings out of the mar ket without a loss of principal. Through out the entire period, of course, a BB&L customer could step up to the savings window and withdraw every penny of his investment — plus accrued interest. BB&L savings accounts returned a greater yield than stocks or bonds, too. But that’s another story.
