Page 10 THE BATTALION WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1974 OSU’s coach Woody Hayes reprimanded by Big Ten CHICAGO (AP) — Coach Woody Hayes of Ohio State was re primanded publicly by Big Ten commissioner Wayne Duke Tues day with the warning that a one- game suspension will follow any re petition of his “unsportsmanlike conduct” of last weekend. Hayes blasted officials and Michigan State defensive tactics after the formerly top-ranked Buck eyes were nipped 16-13 by the Spar tans in a bedlam finish at East Lans ing, Mich. Duke said his action against Hayes stemmed from a new code of ethics approved by the conference last summer. Duke said Hayes can “appeal to the Conference Compliance Com mittee if he desires to do so. ” The commissioners said Hayes was cited under the new code which states: “Acts of unsportsmanlike conduct shall include, but not be limited to, any person who publicly is unduly critical of any game offi cial, Conference personnel, another Speidel takes first in bowling tourney By MARY RUSSO Staff Sports Writer Mary Speidel took first in state for the Aggie women s bowling team, surprising everyone with her per formance this weekend. But who knows — we might not even get selected for that one. And how about the Sun Bowl? Mississippi State and Tennessee, gee whiz, might as well rename it the Turkey Bowl or how about the Taco Bowl! And how many of you realize that Michigan State could represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl!? How many of you even knew there was a Michigan State before last weekend? As for Emory Bellard’s view of the bowl situation? “I’ve read the what ifs till I’m crosseyed.’ ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ The Ags manage to inch their way up the poll, slowly gaining respect, finally reach a pinnacle of fourth and fifth ranking and what happens? They lose. It happened twice this year: at Kansas and SMU. Both games were played on rain-soaked fields. With all the rain in College Station, one might suppose we would be well prepared to play on a wet surface, but not so, evidently. Yet the Ags only fumbled once against SMU, ah, but what a costly fumble. The Kansas loss might be attributed to three games on the road. But to what do you attribute the SMU loss? “Sports Illustrated”, perhaps? ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Remember when time! Remember when the Ags were only two points shy of SMU and the Mustangs had the Farmers backed up close to the goal line. Quarterback David Walker faded for a screen pass and then what? “We went with what we thought would be the safest play,” said Bellard. And that’s what it was, a safety. ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Jerry Honore and Randy Haddox are responsible for the only scoring in the last two games. Seems like the only offensive player not getting the credit he deserves is Jim Hartman. Hartman, along with Honore, are the backs who pushed and shoved for those touchdowns which almost gave the Ags their fourth consecutive win over SMU. 2? After a post-game huddle the game officials still ruled time had expired before an Ohio State player grabbed a loose center snap and barged into the end zone. Hayes contended the officials should have called time out in the fading seconds when Michigan State players stalled in lining up after the preceding play.
