However, at one time the chances that the two would meet again were very slim. In November of 1926, the Aggies coached by Dana X. Bible were preparing to play the Bears after a disheartening 9-7 loss to SMU the previous week. The Farmers had won their four non-conference games and at the time were defend ing Southwest Conference champs. The Aggies, led by Captain “Ox” Dieterich, Jules “Siki” Sikes and Joel Hunt were expected to trounce the Baptists by three or four touch downs. But the Farmers met with a hardnosed Baylor defense and had problems getting their offense un tracked and were forced to suffer their second straight conference loss before the Waco crowd, 20-9. The big news coming from Waco that day was not the game but the riot that occurred during the half time. Fighting broke out between the students of the two schools re sulting in the death of a senior cadet, Charles M. Sessums of Dal las. The following Monday some 2,000 A&M students stood in the rain in front of the YMCA Building with bowed heads to pay a final tri bute to their fallen comrade while the Aggie Band played “Taps” and “Nearer My God To Thee.” Later that week, a petition was circulated and signed by over 500 Baylor students demanding the severence of athletic relations with Morton traded DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys traded reserve quarter back Craig Morton to the New York Giants of the National Football League 1 uesday for a first round draft choice in 1975. A couple of those people, present for the Texas Tech game, were sports .legend Joe Arciniega and the person who wrote more about the legend than anyone else, Kevin Coffey. Joe was here to watch the game and enjoy the festivities. Kevin was in town to do a locker room story for the Dallas Times Herald. ■ir ☆ ☆ A * t* ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆☆ ■fr ☆ ☆ ☆ A A ☆ A ☆-6 6 Cr ☆ 66 ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆-fr 6 * ir * ☆ <r *-dr ☆ * ☆ ☆ Grant Teaff, head coach at Baylor, said after the A&M-TCU game, “The manner in which Texas A&M defeated TCU was awesome. I don’t remember when a major college football team was held to a minus yardage rushing the way TCU was.” The Aggies set a new school record with the -58 yard figure. The previous record was -23 against Bryan Air Field in 1948 when the Ags won 48-6. The Ags have had their share of negative yardage games but the biggest and most memorable game was in 1970 in Baton Rouge. The LSU Tigers held the Ags to -46 yards but the Ags won 20-18. The winning play was a 79 yard Lex James to Hugh McElroy pass with 13 seconds remaining. The S WC record for fewest yards in a game is -72 by S M U against Texas in 1952. Second place is held by SMU also with 68 against Texas in 1950. In 1950 Texas barely escaped 23-20. 66666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 “I don’t ever remember having an extra point or field goal blocked during my coaching career,” said Emory Bellard after the TCU game. The Frog’s Chester Young blocked two Aggie field goals in the game to bring his season total to four. At his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Bellard said that the timing was off. “We were just kicking the ball too slow,” said Bellard. 66666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 Healthwise, the Ags might be hurting a little this week. Glen Bujnoch with a sprained ankle is “questionable. He is a long ways from full speed,” said Bellard. Skip Walker has been working out some but is still bothered by his ankle. Jimmy Dean’s knee was in bad shape Sunday but had shown great improvement by Tuesday. He is still questiona ble. Paul Hulin who injured his knee in the LSU game is out this week. Bellard would like to see the senior heal well and play a few good games. 6 666 666666666 66666666666666666666666 66666666 666 On the all-time list, Bubba Bean has moved into the third position in rushing with his 93 yards against TCU. Bean now has 1,547 yards and is behind Bob Smith (2,415) and Larry Stegent (1,736). Richard Osborne has moved into the No. 5 spot in A&M career receiving yards. He has 70 receptions for 956 yards. 66666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 This season the Ags have sacked opposing quarterbacks 36 times. 13 sacks came against TCU. The defense this season has made 74 tackles for losses totaling 345 yards. Garth Ten Napel has made 16 of those tackles for 125 yards in losses. Warren Trahan has 18 tackles for 65 yards. Ed Simonini has tackled seven times for 41 yards in losses. Daily Eagle of the events that led to the death of Sessums. This “true and unbiased statement” was based on the “sworn affidavits” of many of the A&M students present that day. Two years previously, a Ford, driven by Baylor students contain ing an oil drum representing the Aggies and being ridden by the Baylor Cowboy, got a little too close, in the opinions of the cadets, to the Aggie football team while they were on the sideline. This, along with jeers made at A&M military drills and uniforms, en raged the cadets. On the fateful day in 1926 another Ford was spotted which ired the cadets once again. Some of the cadets jumped from the stands to turn off the ignition and while doing so, caused a girl hanging from the side of the car to fall off. Sessums attempted to carry the girl off the field and received a blow to the head from Baylor students. They justified their action by say ing they were defending the girl from the cadets. However, the Waco police department stated that before the game several Baylor stu dents were armed with sticks and clubs indicating that may have been pre-medihul Over 300 of the 400 cut stayed in the stands *3 fracas which was termiij playing of The Star SpJ ner by the A&M band 1 As a result of the incidents tic relations eventually were! pended and were not resuj 1931 when A&M clobbered boys from Waco 33-7.
