The Ags fumbled like it was part of the game plan, losing five of eight to the Froggies. They couldn’t seem to get the consistent drives going. Jim Giunta, president of the club, said the team simply wanted to hold a match in some place accessible to the public. The purpose would be to introduce the public to wrestling. ALLEN Oldsmobile Cadillac SALES - SERVICE “Where satisfaction is standard equipment" 2401 Texas Ave. 823-8002 The sport has a small following in Texas. Richland Junior College in Dallas has one match a semester in their Student Center and LSU, where wrestling is a varsity sport, does the same. Giunta said he approached Gar mon Tax, the manager of scheduling for the MSC, about holding a match in the new student lounge portion of the MSC. Tax turned Giunta down because there would be plush furni ture which either couldn’t or wouldn’t be moved, said Giunta. According to Giunta, Tax also said a reason would be that there would Professional Quality Photography At Discount Prices Specializing in wedding and portrait Photography. But Giunta said “that doesn’t matter to us any way. ” Tax, when contacted, said he re fused permission because the area had not been inspected since the building was under construction. Giunta indicated that as a second choice he inquired about the exhibit hall but was told that he could rent a space “for some ridiculous figure like $80-100 for an eight by ten space. We need at least six spaces that size and that would use up our entire budget.” Tax, when asked about rental prices for the hall, said that the price would be determined by Theatre Manager Steve Hodge. Hodge was unavailable for com ment at press time. scrimmage than the Froggies. “Offensively we looked so rag ged, miserably ragged,” head coach Emory Bellard said. “I was very dis appointed that we didn’t perform well.” What sounds like a complete dis aster can also be considered a good victory. The offensive backfield could only muster 188 yards rush ing, 116 yards less than their season average. But quarterback David Walker brought out his potent pas sing arm and made up for the back- fields rushing. Walker was seven for nine and 220 yards in the air averaging over 30 yards a completion. On a screen pass, running back Ronnie Hubby followed excellent blocking and ran for a 60 yard touchdown. Split end Carl Roache’s biggest catch was for 34 yards. On one play, quarterback Walker handed off to Hubby, who flipped the ball back to the quarterback. Walker then fired the ball downfield to tight end David Greeno for 45 yards. “It wasn’t mainly my passing,” Walker said. “Ronnie Hubby made a great run. I threw a couple of bad passes and the receivers made some great catches.” It would have been hard for the defense to improve on their play. TCU had only 68 yards passing and the Ags set a new school record holding them to' minus 58 yards rushing. A&M’s defense had five in terceptions and almost completely destroyed the TCU offense. “Our defensive line was con stantly pressing the TCU quarter back,” defensive back Pat Thomas said. “That’s what makes our secon dary work well. ” Thomas had two interceptions, bringing his season total to four. De fensive back Jackie Williams inter cepted two, one tipped by corner- back Tim Gray. Linebacker Ken Stratton intercepted the other pass. The Froggie quarterback was sacked 12 times for 114 yards. Linebacker Garth Ten Napel got to the quarterback five times for 61 yards in losses. Defensive tackle Warren Trahan sacked the quarter back three times for 21 yards. Penalties also hurt the Ags as they lost 117 yards in fouls. TCU only had three penalties for 51 yards. Runningback Bubba Bean had 93 yards rushing, nearly half the total Aggie rushing offense. Hubby was the leading receiver with his 60 yard reception. Skip Walker, second in South west Conference rushing behind Bean, played only a few plays due to a sore ankle he received against Texas Tech. He is expected to be running full speed for the Baylor game this weekend. The 5-1 Aggies will play the Bears in Waco and must have a complete team effort to bring home a victory. Baylor did not play this past weekend and has had two weeks to prepare for the Ags. They are unde feated in conference play after their 21-17 upset over the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Aggies now have TCU and Texas Tech on their side of the schedule. They can’t hurt the Ags but they can certainly help them. It’s not too early for the Ags to “think Cotton” but they better think Baylor first.
